SO EXCITED, I got accidentally addicted to SVU not too long ago and am looking forward to more Law & Order, especially if it is occasionally bonkers.

Seeing how SVU has handled masks during COVID has been a little hard to watch though, there’s people in interrogation rooms taking off their masks or like 1 person wearing a mask and then taking it off while touching their face to hug someone and poo poo like that. So probably accurate! :pwn:

I hate being on the West Coast, I was watching the post count for this thread go up like poo poo WHO DIED NOW

All the awkward Rollins/Carisi tension is killing me and now Carisi finally got a date with someone after like 6 years or however long he’s been on the show and I bet he’s going to keep cancelling on her for Rollins. Also lmao at her dad giving her some Nice Guy speech while he’s on his possible deathbed

And the mask inconsistency has always been terrible in SVU but jesus was it ever bad in this episode, the hospital scenes were the worst :gonk:

The Kathy Stabler reveal is kind of intriguing but yeah, idk if it’s enough to do another two hour special. going to watch it anyway though, hahaha

I guess the week after we get both shows back again and that crossover episode?

drat, I need to go back and watch some older seasons, I’ve missed a lot of SVU before season 11.

One thing from more recent episodes of SVU that I’ve enjoyed: the past few times they’ve investigated a crime that happened on a porn site or an app the owner has been played by John Waters. I don’t even think it was the same character either since I don’t think the other characters recognized him as the same guy iirc. Kind of hope that it’s just him every time and nobody notices that all the porn site owners look exactly the same :haw:

I liked Cassidy too, his undercover stuff and trying to come back from loving up and getting demoted made him interesting although i think his relationship with Benson felt a little weird. Definitely wasn't dull, though. I think you're right about Dobbs being there for one season, seemed like a competent but boring dude.

also for ADAs: i forgot Peter Stone who was on for like one season until Carisi took over. that was fairly recently too! i can barely remember anything about him

Speaking of Raul Esparza, the episode that they're rerunning tomorrow on NBC during OC's usual timeslot is the Barba vs Carisi courtroom showdown one. :siren: LAWYER FIGHT! :siren:

I miss Barba :sigh:

Yay, I'm watching original L&O right now and enjoying it so far: it's season 1, episode 12 with a bombing at an abortion clinic. Have only figured out one two characters' names so far but I liked this line: "Look at us, three men discussing which rights a woman should have over her body. Doesn't that strike you as a little one-sided?" I don't remember how things were in 1991 with regards to abortion rights but it's a more nuanced treatment of the issue than I was expecting for the time period going into it, I guess!

Anyway now I'm addicted to this too, gently caress.

Finally got a chance to watch yesterday’s episodes and :stare: at everything. Glad to hear OC was renewed mostly because I still want Wheatley to go full on Bond villain

Hearing Sgt. Bell’s stepson (? Can’t remember what their relationship was) in OC talk excitedly about Django Reinhardt with the repair shop owner right before getting his hand crushed was especially :smith: - Reinhardt was a jazz guitarist who lost the use of two of his fingers and nearly died in an accident (he did end up adapting to this though and kept playing).

Also was it just me or was the dramatic music in OC… screechier than usual this week? I kind of liked most of it, especially the weirdly unsettling strings during Stabler and Angela Wheatley’s ill-advised makeout session but during the part when Gina goes into that building after shots were fired it got straight up painful. I haven’t had that reaction to any of the other episodes so it’s probably just me but ow

The scene with Stabler subduing the guy in that bathhouse with a towel as half naked sweaty dudes gingerly crept by in the background cracked me the hell up :lmao:

For some reason this is tied to his romantic arc, but at least it gave us the "Stabler tries to date again" undercover scene which is still the high point of the series.

That scene was great, haha.

100% agreed about how flat the rest of the OC unit is, I can’t even remember the names of the characters half the time unless I look them up either. I’d like to think that maybe they’ll start fleshing them out a bit next season now that the series has been renewed and it looks like they might have more time to do so but that’s probably overly optimistic of me

I love this. I’m going to go watch it from the beginning too I think, I started at Season 11ish.

Also the most recent SVU episode (spoilered more for subject matter I guess?) hit really close to home for me- my mom was like that to us too, minus the sexual abuse (as far as I know :negative:) i think they handled the subject well, especially the “why didn’t you just throw her off you and leave” question. Sometimes there are things other than (or in addition to) the threat of physical violence that can make someone hesitant or afraid to do anything. Being terrified about making the other person angrier to the point that they escalate is a huge part of that, especially if you already feel like you can’t leave.

tl;dr svu good, also oc good. I found the ending of oc to be especially satisfying

HOLY FUCK

I think we don’t have to spoiler tag once something has aired unless we’re posting about it in a general thread where people might not watch or be caught up to the most recent episodes. As far as I know, anyway, I know threads sometimes have their own rules. I mostly spoiler tagged my last post because I threw a bunch of personal poo poo in there and not spoiler tagging it felt wrong somehow.

I’m sick of the benson/stabler shipping stuff too honestly. I think they’d be awful together, it feels like there’s way too much poo poo between them to make anything work or even be remotely functional or healthy and it would be kind of boring to watch. Like it’s so obvious that it’s boring, if that makes any sense. I usually love excruciatingly drawn-out will they won’t they type of situations but ugh, not this one.

For SVU: Yelled GOD JUST KISS ALREADY at the tv. That was a sweet moment, even without the mustache :argh:

I’m worried about Chief Garland, I thought he was going to straight up keel over in that one scene when he was talking to Benson and Carisi. Maybe he’s next, Carisi did make that ominous comment about seeing people with that same look on their face quickly retiring or dying :ohdear:

OC: Guess that’s why we hadn’t had much development with those two detectives :stonk: I didn’t expect it to be Morales, he was so boring I didn’t even consider it.

OC thoughts:
And the complete lack of development of the two detectives only made Morales's death seem that much more shallow. :downs: We had no time to develop a connection, so we had no reason to care. They couldn't have had ONE SCENE in a previous episode where, like, Morales has to leave early and Bell's like "oh, is your sister okay?" or maybe Morales gets a phone call and his expression turns all somber and he says he has to go as he rushes out? I just don't understand. This would have taken like two minutes and it would have given us a shitload of context.

It feels like they forgot about the mole and the other two detectives and then were like oh poo poo we’re at the finale already? better shoehorn this in real quick! Hahah, you weren't kidding, I really enjoyed the most recent episode. Also when I was catching up I saw that there was an episode each of SVU and OC in the beginning of December that I totally missed? :psyduck:

SVU:

BARBA!! :buddy: I'm still not 100% sure that I get his motive for taking Wheatley's case besides wanting the NYPD to not get away with sketchy poo poo that they did to get him but it seems like there was something else going on there too. I think I have to rewatch that episode again, I thought I would be alright with the subtitles off but it turns out I wasn't!

It was cool seeing Donal Logue again although I straight up didn't recognize him without facial hair until I heard his voice. it cracks me up how quickly Rollins gets white supremacists/bigots/etc to spill everything by leaning really hard on her accent or pretending to be sympathetic to them like with the guy who had bombs in his closet

OC:

Poor Eli :( Glad they didn't kill him off though, that'd be awful. Also ew at Stabler asking Benson how many guys she'd been with since he was away. Like holy poo poo, that's so gross. gently caress you, Stabler.

Most recent episode was great, it was awesome to see Robin Lord Taylor as Sebastian/Constantine. Wheatley is back to being villainous which was entertaining and I'm glad to see that Angela's also on board.

Also I felt bad for the people in the community who will just be waiting forever for their library to be built because Kilbride's a piece of poo poo :(

My spouse generally won't watch any of the l&o shows with me but this happens almost every week:

him: *pokes head in door* Is Ice-T still in the show?

him: oh thank god *leaves the room again*
