Looking at them altogether like this, a lot of them have the same problem of basically just being a bigger and not as cute version of the first form, with the third form coming completely out of nowhere. The gen 8 designs are not my favorite for a number of reasons but I appreciate that their middle forms are all clearly a step toward the final from the original.
