For sure, too bad the thread images have been lost to time. Kinda like the thread where the guy in I think North Dakota had his kids taken away and the images he shared of his dire home living environment quickly made the forum side with CPS.

facialimpediment posted:So Donnie hits his people with the hard sell last year, causing zillions of credit card chargebacks and fraud claims. The NRCC's lesson from that is that they didn't start the scam soon enough or hard enough. Wow. Yeah from the Nytimes article the takeaway did seem to be that this generated a lot of money so it should be done on a wider scale. They're getting into "Oral Roberts demanding tithes or God is calling him home" territory.

Stultus Maximus posted:There will always be canadians who aren't good at much but hitting someone. That was Derek Boogaard. quote:A native of Saskatchewan, where he grew up in several different communities as the son of a Mountie, he was known primarily as a fighter and enforcer throughout his career, from junior hockey to the pros. His fighting prowess earned him the nicknames of "Boogeyman" and "The Mountie", and made him a favourite with fans. In 2007, he was voted as the second most intimidating player in the NHL, behind Georges Laraque, who attributed his retirement in part to a desire to avoid the serious injury Boogaard could inflict, such as the cheekbone fracture Todd Fedoruk suffered that had to be repaired with metal plates. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derek_Boogaard Cugel the Clever posted:It'll be interesting to see whether American football will ever see a serious reckoning for all the brain trauma inflicted. I just don't see it happening, though, as even those fans who acknowledge the reality of the issue seem to reluctantly accept it. And there's plenty more who just don't give a gently caress about the lives impacted. It's all too easy to turn a blind eye to. You're right, something I've heard that might be the Big Deal wouldn't be from the NFL or NCAA, but if school districts start losing class action lawsuits from former players. If they can't get insurance anymore it would dent the pipeline. I have some cousins whose family put a big focus on football in high school for their two boys. One is in his early 20s and still struggles with weight as he was told to put on pounds to be on the offensive line. The other is just finishing high school and is borderline illiterate. Neither is gonna make headlines but football didn't improve their lives.

Robin Williams would have been fun, dunno about Bill Murray. He's great but not sure if non-stop sarcasm would have worked if he was bouncing off the rabbit instead of Egon.

Mr. Nice! posted:You want a straight man comic not a goof. Put Leslie Nielsen in there. Oh man that's a headscratcher. He's of course fantastic in Naked Gun and Airplane, but he's playing an insane person in an absurd world. Eddie Valiant isn't insane and his actions are rational, although he does adapt to use the tools of a bizarre world. I don't know if it would play to Nielsen's strengths to have him try to come across as a believable burned out alcoholic LA 50s detective. I think he'd still be good but very different movie. Stravag posted:Murray has been a "is his murrayness being dilluted by enough other actors to make him tolerable" since i was a kid. I can only imagine all the murray worship is from people who watched ghostbusters once when they were 5.his best role was the lawnskeeper in caddyshack because it was just enough of him Caddyshack is good but I'd say Groundhog Day was his strongest role where switching him out would weaken the film. He's allowed to be sarcastic as part of his character's jackassedness, but becomes sincere and caring about others so the snark mostly goes away in a believable way. CainFortea posted:As much as I love williams I don't think he could possibly play the straight man in a loony toons adventure. That's true, no way he'd rein in his zanyness. Maybe he could have been Judge Doom but no need to switch out Christopher Lloyd.

In WA state if you're a Medal of Honor recipient you don't have to renew your tabs. If you're a Pearl Harbor survivor you gotta pay the tab fee, but they waive the license plate fee. I wonder if you got the medal while defending Pearl Harbor if they'd make a combo plate.

Stellar Curiosity posted:So this is blowing up: (Carl Bildt, former PM, and former minister for foreign affairs of Sweden) Why would Germany have invaded Sweden? They were already getting iron ore imports, allowed to move troops through Swedish territory, and Allied occupation of Sweden wasn't likely. Especially after Barbarossa I don't think Germany was eager to start another front with a peaceful trading partner.

He appealed his termination and was subsequently reinstated. Balcerzak retired from the Milwaukee Police Department in 2017. quote:In May 2005, Balcerzak was elected president of the Milwaukee Police Association, defeating Sebastian Raclaw by a vote of 521 to 453. By June 2006, the union vice president had resigned because of disagreements with Balcerzak's "leadership style". I wish we had their openness about tax records: quote:When top earners’ tax returns are published in Finland, they call it “national envy day”. AreWeDrunkYet posted:It's honestly shocking how rarely cops, prosecutors, and judges are actually targeted in the US. With so many lives and families destroyed, you would expect more people taking that personally. I just read Mississippi Mud, non-fiction about a circuit judge and his wife who were slain in 1987 by a hitman at home, and it took years to solve. turns out the judge’s former law partner had stolen lots of money from an imprisoned crime boss and convinced the guy it had been the judge. I had a buddy who worked as an assistant DA for a while and got the occasional death threat. Not fun and scary. He’s in private practice now.

Customs did not seem to want to deal with this so just half heartedly asked if this was like, earlier that day? As it had been a week they just waved us through.
