Other things need to happen like the world wrapping around instead of being infinite like minecraft. The OG lead dev who left the company loved minecraft so much that he based the whole thing around it despite Rho protestations. But, yeah, no wrap around doesn't translate well in 2d.

Yeah a wrap around seems more fitting and could result in more interesting and unique planets (or ecumenopoleis).

We had some internal dialogue about it and they have some ideas about keeping it infinite a la Minecraft. Nothing concrete but it swayed me a bit

Infinite 2d map where you have a base to return to sounds... not-good idea,to be honest. Not looking forward to walking back 50 minutes to empty inventory and then treking forward another 50 to Keep finding new stuff.

Part of the reason building helevators and underground highways in terraria is satisfying is that you know the destination is known distance away (and that you will be using them to go to the same area on a later date thanks to hardmode world transition) but building for example a road or a railway to an infinite planet with only 2 axis... yea.

I Honestly feel that Starbound had the right idea with circular worlds; and If you give each world 2 or 3 Z- levels you still have humongoys maps with the added benefit of accessing the different Z spaces from multiple locations allowing faster exploration with ”home” still remaining accessible distance away.

This ofc depending on travel modes and overall game area; if there is only one world where the whole content needs to fit versus multiple worlds and space travel.

A world with a known size also lets you judge the number of NPC's that should be around. Less things to worry about with finite space.

Put it in your hotbar then use the mousewheel to highlight it. It will then become something you can place.

My copy gets stuck at "spawning player" and never goes any further submitted bug report, look forward to it working.

Edit: now over 13 minutes and the spinning triangle next to "spawning player..." has slowed to about to .5 rpm

Edit 2: apparently this is only a problem with hard mode. Tried the default difficulty and it loaded in about 2 seconds.

I hosed around with this thing for like an hour. Dug a big fuckin hole covered with concrete, that's my super secret base. I got Buddy, Daisy, Jax, Paws, Jax and Tiny Toes. That's right, double Jax.

The first thing on my wish list is a ladder. It would be nice to be able to move up and down without jumping on platforms. The second thing is to minimize the colonist list.
