I've been thinking about building a "cyberdeck" for a while, and I think I'm finally going to start working on it. If you're unaware, a "cyberdeck" is basically just a custom-built laptop inspired by cyberpunk poo poo like Neuromancer. The specific deck I'm building is based on this guide, it looks really loving cool. https://thedigitalocean.wordpress.com/deck/ I'm seeing about getting the case printed, the part I'm concerned most about is the soldering. I might eventually add a head-mounted display to it if I can figure it out.

These have gotten a lot easier in the last few years, so good luck! RaspberryPi makes a solid base for one stock now.

Soldering is easy, though practice on some junk first until you're familiar with your equipment since there's a lot of "feel" to it. Thrift stores around here are full of electric typewriters I always think would make a sweet base for this kind of thing, but I've got too many half-started projects lying around to pick up another one, especially considering how big electric typewriters are.

Hell yeah, lmao, etc. Keep us updated! Soldering is no problem. Heat the part, not the solder. I'm sure there's a ton of how to videos on youtube these days. edit: If anyone needs portable soldering capability or doesn't like dealing with the wires, pick up one of these butane soldering irons: https://www.amazon.com/Weller-P2C-Butane-Soldering-Iron/dp/B000B61L0G They run off zippo butane fuel and heat up almost instantly. I wouldn't use it for sitting down and soldering an entire circuit board for an hour, but if you just have a couple of joins to do it's super nice.
