Shockingly good season, Izzo still has some magic. If Richardson, Carr, Fears, Kohler and Cooper are all back and improve next season then look out.

I'd probably point to the time we had Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid on the same team and couldn't get past a 10 seed

One of Izzo's worst teams had Miles Bridges in the starting lineup. But yeah we can't compete with Rutgers being straight rear end.

Looking cute, feeling cute.
I'd compare this year's Rutgers to the LSU year with Ben Simmons, but if so, that isn't great news for Dylan Harper.

Also, regarding that Kansas team, kiimo is either burying the lede or not remembering that Embiid was out for the tournament. So it was just Andrew Wiggins having the coldest night of his life for that team.

kiimo
Jul 24, 2003

I don't want to shock anyone but Embiid was 50% promise of being the best player in the country and 50% can't stay healthy. Sixers fans may know what I mean

There is no way Dylan Harper isn't going to have a better NBA career than Ben Simmons. He's not a complete shithead with no interest in playing basketball.

Simmons may have fallen off a cliff but he was a 3x all-star, multiple 1st team all-defense, all-NBA player. If you had that draft again knowing what their careers would be like he’d probably go third at worst.

Is there smoke around Buzz Williams taking the UMD job? I would love to get him out of the SEC, his teams are such a chore to watch and play against.

I guess Buzz was unhappy because A&M doesn't want to spend money on the basketball team. Makes sense to leave in that case.

E: he doesn't seem stick around long wherever he goes

lol isn't that part of the reason why Maryland's coach left for Nova? That the school is dumping a ton into football for some reason?

I think that's what he said. Nova would be better though because they don't have football so they can dump more into basketball than Maryland probably can.

Villanova has FCS football. I think they’re even pretty good most of the time! But yes it’s far less resource consuming than trying to compete in the Big Ten.

I'm still pissed that St John's lost in the round of 32 and ruined my bracket, but in retrospect, that's what I deserve for expecting a school in New York to win anything ever.

Portal giveth, portal taketh away. Purdue got their main target, they got Oscar Cluff from South Dakota St. He averaged a double double last year and had one of the best OREB% and DREB% in the country.

On the downside they lost sophomores Miles Colvin and Cam Heide. They were first guy off the bench guys this year, and didn't quite live up to expectation. They both went into big slumps from 3 over the middle of the season but picked up a bit at the end of the year, especially Heide. He was 15/25 over the last 11 games and he started to rebound like a maniac. Both should end up on P5 rosters somewhere. They both got squeezed out, Purdue has a ton of minutes tied up at the 2, 3, & 4 spots and will be getting worse with the new guys coming in.

They also lost Will Berg and Brian Waddell. Berg played limited minutes. He's 7'2 but got lost a lot on both ends of the court. He's got a good looking shot, but it never really translated into game time production. Waddell is surprisingly athletic, but lack of muscle last year and injury problems this year held him back. They'd both do OK at a mid-major somewhere.

Cluff is a really great get! Berg and Waddell were totally unplayable but Colvin and Heide are tough losses, the bench was looking really deep. But I'd rather have Cluff than any or all of those guys.

Yeah, Colvin's minutes will go West & Benter and Heide by Cluff, Jacobsen, and Burgess.

So it'll be something like:

1s) Smith, West
2s) Cox, Benter
3s) Loyer, ?
4s) TKR, Burgess
5s) Cluff, Jacobsen

more or less.

Painter needs to find an athletic wing and to hope that Burgess makes a leap up and Jacobsen lives up to potential.
