Seven idiots and a bear walk into a dragon's lair.

Well here's a fine rumor:

https://twitter.com/haloofthoughts/status/1449693581392875521?s=20
A few people on reddit are losing their minds and wondering if this means Danteh is being traded or if he's just going to be permabenched but I think that's a bit silly when we have no idea what the meta is going to look like for OW2. Pelican and Danteh do have mostly overlapping hero pools but the two of them would have loving killed it as a DPS duo for like half the season this year with just Echo/Sombra/Tracer gameplay. I'd only foresee either of them getting benched if the meta is sniper heavy.

Also this move strongly implies that Pelican requested to be traded not to be on a Korean team but to be on a team with his best friend, Piggy, which is adorable.

super also makes plenty of money from his stream. he may be making a decision to be on a competitive team for less money than he would on a non-competitive one

shock had 1 off year and still ended in what, 4th? not too hard to believe super'd still have faith in that team. if he didn't want to win, he could just transition to full time streaming and make more money anyway

regardless of "faith" in the team, super is probably one of the players that's making the shock the team that it is (player-wise) so he shouldn't have taken a discount. this is a business, shock can afford it. he shouldn't be taking anything less than being one of the highest paid overwatch players. i have no clue on this but if they are taking advantage of him by doing the whole, "we family" spiel then, nah i don't like that. these teams aren't your family

Maybe hes doing the real sports thing where you take a salary cut for the cap space to allow better players onto the team and then make up the difference by selling the team your comprehensive fitness and nutrition program. After all, super is marketable!

...I hope esports make enough money at some point where a 200mil team salary cap can be a thing

There's benefits to sticking to a team you know over a unknown team and org - less change to have to get used to, and in a year as full with change as this I don't think that's invalid. Just because other teams were offering more doesn't mean they were offering much more, and I think super just decided none of the other bids was good enough to match the shocks (presumably improved) offer.

Surprised about Dpei, but one stage championship isn't enough for him to stay on it seems. It was a shame the glads went down earlier - I think they'd give a more interesting game against Shanghai than atlanta did and there wasn't much between the teams. But hey, Funnyastro gets playtime again hopefully.

I don't know that Edison is the caliber of player that Fuel want in order to chase the championship. He never really shined like his dps partners, although i dont think he had any major issues either. Maybe the Fuel environment will be a better place for him, and at least they'll have the entire offseason to integrate him, unlike Pine.

Good to see Smurf and FunnyAstro's news. I actually thought DPei was confirmed back? Gladiators have been pretty consistently B tier so he's probably a step up for a lot of teams, assuming he's staying in the esport.

tbh I never got the dpei hate, glads were like the most consistently good team in the whole league. and tbh I think they were better than atlanta in playoffs this year, they just threw with the king's row pick like every other team that played the reign

Mostly people who hated that Glads was anything but the best, probably. They had a real good track record overall, their only crime was that they didn't win more things

dpei did a drunk twitch stream and woof, it got rough https://www.reddit.com/r/Competitiveoverwatch/comments/qdsu4k/dpei_ama_live_now_on_twitch/

Basically things with the GM were super rocky, and they were misrepresenting things about dpei and the relation between coaches/players. He also had trouble communicating with anyone above him, and when he complained about Gladiators being slow on the offseason to assign budget for new players, he got on a big fight with management and here we are now.

r/cow in shambles over whatever Gravy does is always great for schadenfraude. I hope he does well! He's seemed aimless for most of the year and he really looks like he needs a W. :unsmith:

re:Glads and dpei, the GM posted this on reddit, in addition to this twitlonger https://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1srrspn

quote:

When David took a Head Coaching role coming into last season, one of his core demands was competitive control over the team/roster. Because of the amount of trust we have in him, I took on GM as a supporting role and this was agreed upon.
My management style has always been to give high autonomy and allow the experts we've hired to run their show. The team was always intended to be ran with David at the helm with the day-to-day support of our team manager, assistant coaches, and support personnel.

Each season is a long, strenuous, and continuous toil. The constant grind takes a toll and teams often have to transition immediately from a heartbreaking loss into decision making for the next year. Knowing that he felt burnt out, I asked him to take the next few days to rest and that even with a deadline coming up his mental health came first. This is why we didn't speak until Wednesday.

So it looks like the GM decided he needed a mental break at the worst possible moment (when everyone else was starting to pick up the hot players on free agency) and it made dpei feel like his hands were tied, instead. Also, that comment about prioritizing his mental health in response to minimizing communication is... weird, to put it mildly

it's pretty easy to believe boston were just the highest bidder for striker if they were actually willing to spend this year, as reported. most of the other teams that would have the potential to spend bigger already have great tracer specialists
