shanghai looked pretty bad at the start of last season too, they got rolled in their first match against chengdu & didnt really return to their 2020 form until the first tournament, so i don't think this means too much on its own. we know they have the talent to pull things together. dallas also got rolled in their first game this year & now look much better the zarya comps that apac (& dallas) prefer are unfortunately much less interesting to watch than the winston comps, everything slows down so much

you know it's weird, in esports I feel like individual bad performances are way more indicative of a team's overall quality than in other sports. Like, Week 1 of the 2003 season the New England Patriots got absolutely destroyed by the Buffalo Bills 31-0. loving 400-pound Sam Adams picked off Tom Brady for a touchdown. Embarrassing. The Patriots won the Super Bowl a few months later.

Haven't gotten to see the matches yet, but I can't believe Spark beat Seoul and apparently would've beaten Shanghai without some good ol' throwing. Much more promising than I'd expected! Had to jump on my flight home after seeing my boys get dunked on for the first map. Just got to watch the rest of the match, and goddamn, I thought we were hosed after the Dorado loss. Shoutout to Bernar and Irony, neither of whom I believed in at all and both of whom have played very well. AlphaYi and Shy have been hard-carrying, and I haven't noticed Superich outside of the occasional kill, which is exactly what I want from a main support. I'm not sure if Guxue has been playing badly, or if he's just better on heroes/comps that are not as good right now, but it seems like we have a clear starting five that is communicating and coordinating well.
