That was soooooo sick. What an extraordinary end to a phenomenal season. OWL has at least one more year, and if Overwatch can keep some of its momentum going as a game, I think we'll see this season as a big pivot point back to an upward trajectory to at least respectability as a tier-two esport next season. I heckin' love Overwatch. The Fuel org and players have earned this championship. Goddamn.

This was one of the most enjoyable GF events I’ve been to. It felt more personal than the previous, both because of the smaller venue and the fact that there were a ton of players and talent in attendance. It allowed people to meet their favorite OWL people without a big barrier between them. The merch left much to be desired, and there weren’t a lot of stuff to do outside of watching the game. BUT Goldenboy was an amazing emcee and really kept the energy up

Spark roster is now: DPS: Shy, AlphaYi, Pineapple Tank: Guxue Support: Superich, Irony Rumor is that they're looking to hire RUI as the new head coach, which would be interesting, especially if it means we could bring in Leave with him. That would still leave a gaping hole at tank (for most heroes) and flex support (please get rid of Irony), though.

I saw on the subreddit that the Korea move is being considered for the Chinese teams, yeah, and that they might try to spin that into playing APAC games on LAN. That'd be pretty cool. Also, Seoul just gutted their roster too; I think they're down to Profit and Stalk3r.

Everyone on Boston is gone except Pre (who just got there) while Seoul released smurf, Ir1s, Vindaim and Fits. It does seem like every team is gonna be starting from scratch next season. There's less than 20 renewed players so far, everyone else is either on free agency or retired/gone. https://twitter.com/sean_mmills/status/1593761926336634881

seoul's gm said they just can't commit to spending at the moment with the current uncertainty around the league & game in china (and therefore the apac region as a whole), so they're letting the players explore free agency to let them get the best deals possible instead of say, releasing them way too late after they get confirmation that they can't afford any of them.

Ignis posted:So this is a profoundly bad idea for multiple reasons. It's also remarkable that Nugget retained his job considering everyone else got nuked It's such an eyeroll move. Calling All Heroes is pretty cool! If their intentions are sincere, invest in that and/or support these players in Contenders and help them develop into OWL-level talent. Or make a mixed roster and elevate the couple of players who have been able to make it to Contenders, at least. But I'm sure their intentions aren't sincere, and it's a PR gimmick to try to paper over putting the absolute minimum amount of resources into the next season.
