Mentopolis is the only D20 I've fully watched so far and it was a better fit for me than the other couple that I've started. It's using a really stripped down ruleset. The cast is all really good and I hope they find more things to use Alex in. Hank Green is in it and his character threatens people with aggressively delivered science facts. The setting is a metaphorical city representing a person's mind where the characters are all personified character traits and things. There's lots of opportunities for all sorts of dumb jokes. I'm personally planning to try The Seven next, just because that crew is loving delightful chaos energy together in everything I've seen them in

Brennan likely knew who was calling, and even if he didn't it was clear what was going on pretty quickly. However, I'd prefer to think that he'll just roll with literally any bit that happens to him in the world. Like, people are calling him from the bank to sell him a new credit card and instead find themselves in an improv sketch

Subscription money goes into all the production costs for the shows? It's just that instead of the producer deciding how to spend it, it's the cast. I like the idea of this one but honestly hit fast forward a few times when the concept was clear already and the actual implementation wasn't interesting to me past the funny idea having been built. I'm not sure it'll hold my attention in the long run but I'll definitely see. I'd like more interaction, I think. Like the question and answers on smarty pants. It might be a hard line to walk, though, because the players are sincerely trying to make something cool and everyone wants to be supportive. I'm not sure people are going to want to riff or tease about this stuff. We'll see what happens with other groups that bring different energies. Open Source Idiom posted:You think the producers would be completely hands off on spending? I reckon the contestants would have yo get their ideas approved in some way. I'm assuming it's Total Forgiveness rules. The approval is about whether it can be reasonably implemented from a production standpoint (and in this case whether it hits the budget number). Content and concept is in the hands of the player. We'll likely see a behind the scenes on this show, so I bet we'll find out details at some point. Edit: this show is reverse Total Forgiveness T.C. fucked around with this message at 11:22 on Jun 2, 2024 |

Is there a twist to who is picking favorites, is now the question.

I am amused at the fact that Ally either got second place because of her satirical take on Brennan which was funny, or because she was pretending to be Brennan, who is funny. We will never know! A bunch of the other people avoided getting too into jokes so their style wouldn't come through. Ally got to lean into Brennan humour. Also great that Brennan's strength was everyone thinking he was Rekha, and that was also his downfall. Zac killed it, Jess had the best jokes, Grant was by far the worst at hiding who he was but had the best reaction chatter at the camera.

Macdeo Lurjtux posted:I feel like Brennan intentionally tanked Rekha when he dropped character to diatribe at Katie. I think if he had intentionally done that he would have gone full speech at the camera about leaning into the metagame. Because comeuppance would be a funny bit after Rekha metagaming him. I think he just relaxed and didn't actively self censor. It was, however, the most Brennan message possible.

I am pretty over Umm Actually answers where people vaguely guess. I want giant rants where people have an entire thesis about a property. Also, the list of four things question format is annoying when people are guessing I don't care what the property or the thesis is. I just want people to be overly passionate about some dumbass minutia The bit only works if people act like they're totally into it. If they kind of eyeroll it then it's not fun. The conciet isn't identifying a wrong thing. It's enthusiastically correcting things. If you don't have that it's just rambling trivia. Edit: agreed that I'm pro buzzer microphone

I did not initially laugh at the Brennan table bit. I did very much laugh at Zac knocking it back down.

I had assumed adventuring academy was another D20 commentary/DLC type of thing, based on the branding. I will have to watch more of these.

I would watch a show that was just Alex awkwardly dealing with rolling ones on things that their character very obviously should be able to do. It's great in this and was great in the brain one. lol just hit "I try to... kiss? him..." Edit: also, the high energy music is making a huge difference T.C. fucked around with this message at 04:23 on Jul 19, 2024 |

Rekha’s disbelief that shes the only one that gets insane skill checks was great.

kiminewt posted:I know that they mean well but I can't help but feel the absolute freak out they pull when someone blames them for some offense is gonna screw them over at some point. This isn't a freakout. This is them using their platform to say 'gently caress genocide'. I don't think they expect that posting this is going to take heat *off* of them. They're making sure they're getting yelled at for the right thing. A 100% gently caress Zionists stance is not a freakout response to some minor comments Like, this kind of thing might be bad for them one day, but if depends on what you think 'bad' means. MikeJF posted:Just announced a price hike up a dollar a month, but existing subscribers stay on the legacy price. The YouTube comments are very funny because they are just a bunch of people saying "Ah yes, quite reasonable!" and "You should also raise my prices, please"

Squiggle posted:Good god I just finished it and I love these people's energy together. Glenn is a nutjob and it's fantastic I haven't watched this one yet, because I've been saving it. I know nothing about the subject, but the last similar one was amazing. The non-standard niche episodes really show that the magic of the format is having at least one or two people on an episode that are hilariously excited to know a bunch of minutia about a thing. I would way rather watch a bunch of episodes about things like baseball, musical theatre, cocktails, pets, or whatever where people are engaged than watch episodes about 'nerd' things where people are just guessing and laughing at the dumb things in the questions. You need at least one person aggressively "Um... Actually-ing" and the host playing along with the people doing it.
