"If you try and make me use the authenticator I'll quit" that's a very dumb hill to die on and you will not be missed as much as you think. It's not that deep, it's not an invasion of privacy, you're being a turd out of water.

The in-person meeting that was I required to attend is where I picked up this stupid cough that required two-weeks off work (using up all my PTO in the process) and an ongoing lung-grumble that erupts and subsides. I have, repeatedly, tried explaining that people with compromised immune system should not be loving required to go these things and the director insists that I simply must! It's soooo important! How else would I mingle with people I don't wish to be around!
When I got back to work last week, one of my colleagues (manager-level person) asked me if I though I'd caught this at the meeting and then we both had a spirited conversation about being required to do in-person stuff in a post-Covid world when you work in public health.
Today he brought this up with the director, pointing out all of the things I've been saying for four years, and she quickly agreed that I would no longer be required to attend.
I'm thankful for the passionate defense but furious that it essentially took a white man to get through to her.

There should be more paid holidays, one every month at minimum.

:yeah:

Also there's still no mandatory paid leave legislation in the US, and only 10 states have laws for it

Let's brainstorm it, a holiday for every month. If your month has a holiday give it another.

There are a couple of large contractors who see patients from practically everywhere and, as expected, a translator might be needed. Whether or not the patient/client requires translation, the contractors includes their native language as part of the monthly data submission. This can be quite fun, as I come across languages I had not idea existed and, in this case, even use loanwords!

If you lot have suddenly decided that the invoices I've been nagging about for months now constitute an emergency and must be done nownownownownow, then maybe stop sending me loving messages and emails about stupid poo poo and let me get these done.

Stuck in an hour-long meeting about next fiscal year's blanket purchase orders and they have nothing to with me nor I with them but it is, for some weird manager reasoning, a moral imperative that I attend.
At least it's on Teams. And no one is going to be asking me questions.

You're not wrong. But since when did logic have anything to do with griping about work on an Internet forum?

cruft

I started typing up another work gripe and then realized that actually I shouldn't do that, because it could come back to bite me if someone were to do 2 minutes of Internet Detective work on my SA account. So I'll just phrase this in vague terms.

Part of management means you're dealing with human beings and their myriad social interactions. In my career I've had to deal with garden variety assholes, Nazis, and sexual predators. I'm the one who has to put my neck out to try to put 99% of the staff more at ease with the 1% who are hellbent on being as anti-social as possible, and I've lost so much sleep because of the stress.

Recent events have launched me into yet another tense situation. Now I have to start this whole stupid dance of trying to get ahead of any messaging that happens so that when the person in question goes ballistic, it won't put my job at risk. I'm already losing sleep over it. Yay.

Man it sucks so much that I finally got my poo poo together again just for all this to happen
There was a point earlier this year i thought about going to law school, specifically for immigration but that seems like a dead end
Maybe I'll look into hr? I have no idea what to do with my life but it can't be IT services because this poo poo is miserable
