If commissions do their job and are strict about preventing fighters from fighting when they gently caress themselves up with cuts, it's about all we can hope for.

Currently all fighters have to do is not be so obviously hosed up or so overweight that the fight gets cancelled. It makes little to no difference if it's a good cut or a bad cut.

I don't understand -- a bad cut is definitionally one that affects their weighin (like functionally stepping onto the scales without getting pulled by the commission or making weight).
So a bad cut.... does make a difference?

I think it's a different fight than either of them have had before and IMO charles has looked like just a better tony ferguson in a lot of ways, his standup reached incredible levels of clean vs tony and he has the best bjj in the ufc at this point, mostly because of his ability to get an insane amount of sub attempts (e.g. getting into a position where its possible) in each fight, but yeah I don't think he has tony's durability and neither justin nor dustin go down remotely easily. I think fighters who have strong BJJ and striking but less strong wrestling inherently make a lot of good to watch matchups too

I think if Oliveira can get Dustin to the ground, he can take it. Might not have as easy of a time as Khabib, but I think he has the skills to get a tap.

Not sure about Justin. I feel like he's a slightly bigger threat to Charles' standup style with disciplined low kicks and being ready for a reaction single, but might be easier to capitalize on on the ground.

In any case, let's get these fights going cuz I wanna watch them.

Yeah the other half of it is the UFC just chasing guys who have "The it factor" , meaning all they do is give you a microphone and a reporter asks a bland boilerplate question and you are expected to come up with some response that is memorable and quotable and badass and funny and makes everyone want to see your fight.

They do try, but they also pour money into obvious duds (on the mic, at least) like Sage.

Jacare will be 42 by the time his arm heals, do you really wanna see him in BKFC? He can probably crush a few cans in Bellator though, but I suspect that's not how they'll match it up.

Maybe he can make small but much safer money with the various grappling events that are put on.

Foul Fowl posted:

tbf jacare has always been a particularly determined guy even among the absolute maniacs who fight in the ufc. it's a real bummer he never made it to the belt.

I always thought his inconsistency came from having a chip on his shoulder about not wanting to be just a grappler in MMA, and kept writing checks that his striking skills couldn't cash. But with the last skid, it seems like the adaptations he made for MMA grappling weren't enough to get passed by there, either.
