Exdeath 0.3 has been released.



I am accepting submissions for Neo Exdeath graphics. You must use FFVEditor to insert them in to a clean FFVA US ROM, and use this online patcher to create an IPS patch. I will, unfortunately, not be able to do this work myself as the program crashes frequently under CrossOver (the only version of Wine available to me) and I don't have a Windows computer. Because Exdeath is open-source, I will also accept pull requests which add patches or features.

EDIT: Yes, I'm aware the Double AP patch is still listed (and works) when there's a whole multipliers panel right there. Shut up.

I'm going to be cutting 0.4 tonight; since we now have three alterNEDs, I've added a Random option. (I'm posting this now to give people an opportunity to submit more NEDs so they'll get included.)

EDIT: it turns out that FFVEditor doesn't properly encode images larger than 120x120. 🙃 As a result I'm having to write a toolchain to do things the manual way.

EDIT 2: this is rapidly becoming a disaster. 0.4 will be going up the day after this poo poo works.

Recommended dimensions:
- right NED: 128x136
- left NED: 72x104

No more than 16 colours per image, one of which is an alpha channel.

Yeah, so. Since something's rotten in the state of Denmark, 0.4 will not be shipping tonight after all.

Previously, I was reading and writing directly to monster and formation blocks for the multipliers. Since that's not working, I next wrote a quick tool to generate patches for x2/x4/x8…and that's loving up FFVEditor too.

So I'm going to eat dinner and go to bed.

EDIT: Do keep submitting new NEDs, though; that part is working great.

Exdeath 0.4 released, hopefully resolving the multipliers issue.

For some reason, FFVEditor writes singleton experience/gil edits to a different location than when I do it en masse. No, I don't know why. 🤷🏻

Still looking for new NED graphics, though. And we figured out how to edit the left side's positioning, so at some point I'm going to correct PAD NED's left side and then we're gonna see some serious poo poo.

Exdeath 0.4.1 released, and I don't want to hear nothin' about the release notes.

Also we got a new PAD patch but despite my size edit and the formation editor it's assuming classic left-NED position. I don't know what's up with that, so I'm seriously considering removing it in the next release. Also, because full-size replacers are doing things like…



…that, I'm going to decline full-size NEDs until we figure out what's going on.

Doomtrain looks sweet, though.

Mild runs only. $1.10 per goon up to 20 for every goon that completes a run to the end (must complete a standard run first) using Can Of Worms's Final Fantasy V Advance Randomizer. Make sure to emptyquote this post on a win so I can see it! Oh, and please don't use the FFV4JF site (probably not cool crowning on impossible runs). It's up to you if you want to spoil the Jobs you get or not but I'd recommend it to reduce grinding and magic level confusion. Also, I'll probably wait until next year to actually donate so I can kill two birds with one stone and water that tree.
Also, make sure you use the clean unpatched Final Fantasy V Advance US ROM (CRC32 7A24AB0C)! You'll get game-breaking errors with the EU version or patched ROMs that change job stuff.

Note that Exdeath 0.6+ implements a randomizer for GBA as well, albeit with a modified algorithm that allows you to set innates globally (the QoL ones, anyway). It also refuses to let you use a wrong base ROM.

Exdeath 0.7.1 has been released, with a bugfix for the randomizer and updating Waddler Rebalance to v3.3.2.

If you are using the Unlocked Jobs patch, as described in the readme included with Exdeath you now get Cannoneer drops from 0.6.0 on.

e: this change was way back in 0.6 and noted in the release page for that version.

Nope. That's entirely on the game engine. In order for it to be fixed, someone who actually knows how to program for the GBA would need to look at the code, etc.; I am not such a person.

note that savestates are not compatible between emulators, which can include different versions of the same emulator, and architectures. savefiles are identical because they just store the SRAM contents, not emulator state.
