Which countries are you guys excited to play when you get V3? In V2 I've never actually had an Ottoman run, so I'm eager to give that a try - the multiple crises and hardcoded things in V2 always kind of dissuaded me to give a go at restoring the declining empire, so I'm hoping for a neat challenge in V3. I'm also looking forward to Bavaria: some of my best, most interesting "rollercoaster"-like games in V2 were always as Bavaria, because you're a middle-rank power trying to stay afloat in between Austria-Hungary and Prussia, so it always gave a lot of interesting challenges.

As long as managing huge nations doesn't turn out to be too tedious, I'm actually really looking forward to playing Russia. In some of the recent AARs they've literally had slaves with higher SoL than Russian Serfs so modernizing and liberalizing it seems like a huge fun challenge. Kind of like the USA except you can actually lose. Most of the AAR nations seemed like a blast too. Japan, USCA, Ottomans etc. And then once I've got a handle on the game trying for the classics like Punjab/Ethiopia/Persia/some in Indonesia. I’ll recreate the one time in Victoria 1 where I played as the Habsburg Empire, stationed an infantry regiment in every province and refused to do any reforms while I mass-industrialised the country. Millions of liberals and socialists died rising up against the entrenched army but the empire never fell.

One of the game objectives you can choose at the beginning is "learn the game" and each objective has suggested nations so presumably they have it covered. I have a feeling one of the "learn the game" suggested nations might actually be USA? There's always a debate with paradox game starter nations whether you pick somewhere strong enough that you can make mistakes and still do well, or you pick somewhere really small so you can get a handle on everything that's going on without being overwhelmed. I definitely prefer the latter approach. I want somewhere with like one state and a few buildings so I can really stare at the numbers for a while and work out how the system is moving. Even if I can't actually do much.

IME the main annoyance I've had with large nations (played the leak) was that it's hard to precisely manage the production methods of the buildings because it's either change production methods for the entire sector or change production methods one building at a time. There's a lot of clicking involved once the number of buildings in a sector go past like five or so buildings.

It's definitely not going to be my first play through, but once I know what I'm doing I've got an idea for a communist or anarchist Confederacy game. The CSA is such a dumb idea for a country that I can see it collapsing to revolution pretty readily, and I think it would be funny to spread some form of utopian egalitarianism around the world from a country with such blatantly racist foundations. Basically I'd be aiming for some hardcore revolutionary self-reconstruction, and then maybe launch a war of liberation against the North to free their wage slaves.

Playing Persia was op in the leak. Small and a lot of potentials so it was easy to modernize, grow the economy fast, and start taking out neighbors. Wonder how things will be balanced on release

The Dutch seem like an easy way to learn things. Industrialising will probably be easy, good basis to play around with building political utopias, and plenty of opportunities to go full evil mode and build a colonial empire

Pretty sure my first 'proper' game (I think I briefly trialled another country just to figure out the mechanics a tiny bit) resulted in me forming Somalia and dominating the Opium trade, so I'll probably do something like that again

I recommend playing as the United States or Britain, because nobody stopped me from going nuts making new namelists for American and British cultures so you'll get the best random-gen characters there.

Portugal was a very fun game because you felt like you could become a great power but you never reached that damned eight place since you're too small to build anything decently unless you beat the crap out of Spain. There's hardly any Paradox game where Portugal isn't newbie friendly, so that will be my pick once again.

Surprised nobody here has mentioned Italy, seems like a fun potential challenge for unification with less raw economic potential than the more overpowering Germans. Not sure which of the Italian states to go for but any might be neat.
