I am an awkward fellow
after all

BearDrivingTruck posted:

I'm rereading the series and something I've noticed is that the forms of the three yokai shifters-- Okarun, Aira, and Unji-- all amp up/warp an inherent personality trait of theirs

Okarun's anxiety turns to depression, Aira's pride becomes comically haughty, and Unji's innate tendency to look after others results in him wasting one of his two uses of his umbrellas to shield Momo from the rain (I used to think it made him more flirty, but I realized this time that while his physical actions in that scene are flirtatious his actual dialogue is purely concern about Momo's health)

Which makes me wonder about Hase, because while he's already a flat character his bequeathed Jumping Crone power also seems to manifest differently than those of the three listed above; don't know if that's because of how he got it or if it's something else

It 100% made him more of a domineering bully mysogynist: look at how he acted toward people that he considers "below him" like Okarun and Kinta (in the first issue he's the one that wants to chuck a magnet in the paper wad, and in the flashback he tells Okarun he should just kill himself), and toward women he considers objects at best (how he acted toward the girls on their phones in the hallway and subsequently toward Kurdere during the fight). Without the yokai he's a "leader of the pack" bully mostly relying on the presence of others to validate his escalation; but with the powerup he finally feels like he can cut loose on his own and yell the things he was previously only muttering.

But this is all just my two cents, I hope we see more of what happened to him soon, as well as the resolution of what went down with Zuma, Daiki, and Raiya.

Not saying you're wrong but for me at least it's a little hard to see the Crone powers loosening his inhibitions by that much when his baseline is already impressively lovely

Exposure to the main cast has caused a lot of people and yokai to be less lovely over time

Okarun also becomes kinda "suave" in his yokai form, though (like with him saying "Momo-chan," etc). I don't think it's "depressed" so much as sorta "relaxed/chill/sorta lazy."

He doesn't actually come off as genuinely upset.

It's sorta similar to the Shikamaru character archetype. The aloof "mendoukusai" guy.

loving incredible chapter :allears:

Also, loved Okarun getting mad when she ask if he had a thing going on with Aira. Like, no hesitation in that reaction, you could feel the "how dare you suggest I'd cheat on you!" undertones in it

I don't think she knows Vamola is an alien. She just found out that they exist an hour ago.

Yeah, but it's a very different handling of the situation. She just supported Okarun, as opposed to Miko and Muko literally dragging Okarun, Momo, or both then vanishing, lol.

That feels pretty 40k and by 40k rules she's abhuman, not xenos.
