Got to maintain the kayfab. It would be hilarious if this was true though.

Yeah there was a push to get people vaccinated and it was mildly disingenuous, it just also happened to be the correct thing to do

it's not just about the vaccination - the entire narrative around covid was full of disinformation from official sources, and now we've suddenly decided that it's all over and are refusing to think about it anymore. just the shifting standards of what it meant to die from COVID alone constituted a big and obvious state intervention in the discursive environment.

in this case there was a clear public interest, but it's one of the more blatant information management campaigns i've seen.

If you handed American workers control of the means of production tomorrow, it would take at best until the first oil price spike for the imperial war machine to get going again.

maybe, maybe not. depends on how its accomplished, as well as how that ownership is organized and stewarded after the fact imo. it'd be a road that changes many people through struggle. regardless, if what you're looking for is the abolition of bourgeois rule (america being the platonic dictatorship of the bourgeoisie) then transferring land and production to the people through mass worker action is the path to that.

Yeah, actually, gamers in the house forever,
i dont doubt the capacity America would have to be France 2

i do doubt the capacity of the First World order to keep existing in such a situation though so it would still probably be a net good

I appreciate the effort Norton is putting in to educate my dumb rear end, and I think he's really smart, but I have to read the articles. The podcast just doesn't work for me unless he has a neat guest on.

Oh yeah American's could grow and change for the better, but I said if you handed it to them tomorrow for a reason, it's very hard to predict things like that. We still haven't seen a first world state attempt socialism let alone have a revolution.
Of course stripping the bourgeois of the means of production is the best way to end their rule, but that's not the question. It's supposed to be a comparison between ending American imperialism and implementing communism (or at least communist rule) in America. You are right that doing the later could result in the former ending but too many American's are too virulently anti-communist to do so without a violent revolution and probable civil war, which is a hard sell to people enjoying the spoils of empire.
Conversely America's empire is in a relatively precarious position and convincing people it needs to end can make a meaningful difference in weakening it.

The harm the empire does outside of the hegemonate far outweighs the harm capitalism does to it's workers within the borders so imo from an ethical standpoint one should say they wish to destroy imperialism then decide if communism is the best way to do that. I think it's at least an open question.
