fez_machine posted:DROD absolutely counts as a puzzle game and it's one of the best puzzle games ever made (Stephen's Sausage Roll is very influenced by its movement system/gameplay concepts). The DROD series is brilliant, but as much as Gunthro is a decent introduction to the mechanics, it's also probably the weakest plot- and writing-wise. I'm not sure which would be the best to recommend, though!

I'm not sure if it properly counts as a puzzle game because it's an adaptation of a board game, but the board game does have strong PipeMania energy so I reckon it's appropriate: the Steam adaptation of Galaxy Trucker is on sale right now, and it's really, really good.

treat posted:I really love sokoban's that go places but I'm more trepidatious over how devious I expect it to be, every modern take on sokobon gets downright nasty 1000% of the time. I'll play it eventually but yeah, the price is pretty steep with how many sokoban's I still have to finish I found the learning curve to be pretty gentle -- it does a good job of introducing you to each new technique before throwing you into a puzzle that demands it. I'm only as far as the Clone stage, but I've really enjoyed it so far.

Bonk posted:Kind of felt the same way for the most part, but the lighter difficulty was offset by how clever I found the concepts. The "a-ha" moments still feel really good because the mechanics are just fun to play with and the design is pretty brilliant. There were only a few that really stumped me, but even if I had to look anything up, I'd just see the first move and be able to figure out the rest on my own. Yeah, that first infinite enter puzzle relies on setting up a puzzle where it's really easy to accidentally stumble into the infinitesimal block, and the player taking away from it that sometimes the infinitesimal block can have stuff in it. One thing that did disappoint me about Parabox was the lack of a meta-puzzle like Baba's endgame had. It felt like there was lots of scope there for a reveal that the menu screen itself had a puzzle that I hadn't figured out yet and I was kind of sad that the game just ended instead.

Yeah, The Looker was one of the few games I've played recently to make me genuinely belly-laugh, and it does a really good job of making its puzzles simeltaneously jokes and puzzles.

A perennial timekiller for me on Android is Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzle Collection. No charge, no ads, no spyware, no manipulative design, just a whole bunch of randomly-generated puzzles with minimal polish.

Kuule hain nussivan posted:Any recommendations on Escape Room style games? I've already gone through the Room series. Are the ones made by mc2games any good? Palindrome Syndrome etc. I really like the Cube Escape series by Rusty Lake. Lots of dream logic and Twin Peaks-esque surrealism. I don't think they ever finished it though, sadly.
