I thought the BF1 and BFV version of guns and attachments sucked so I’m glad it’s more of an integrated menu rather than a laggy poo poo show of “trench, storm, low weight.”

BC2 could and did often turn to a complete stalemate on some maps due to being able to turn everything into the surface of the moon

The best thing about BC2 was that you couldn't go prone

That and no jets. They are stupid and just take people out of the “battlefield” and put the two pilots in a “shoot you down then run back to my base”

Choppers at least target soft and hard targets, and can be shot down with RPG’s.

I think BC2 did not even have a lock on ability outside the homing dart?

I thought 1 got the planes right, eventually. Fragile, slow, can easily be swatted out of the sky with an AT round or a squad of LMGs.

I think the only think I remember that was super abusive about the fighters were the lawn darts that seeming kill instantly and refresh by the time you've turned around.

Portal sounds neat in theory but I’m probably not going to mess around in it myself.

I’m sure some interesting yet ultimately shallow games will come out.

What story? It’s always been about you, a person, on a battlefield.

The games didn’t even have a singleplayer until BC.

I don’t play Apex but I saw they started adding back story and character quests to complete in match.

If that’s where they are heading with this, no thanks.

Yeah the games are still about people on a battlefield but they were never you. If you demand a silent faceless protagonist you can project yourself on then I'm sorry, but the games always had voice acting that was not your voice. If you use the commo rose or spot someone in BF4 you might speak Chinese or Russian! Did that kill the game for you too?

Come the gently caress on. You know what I mean. I’m not talking about hardcore role playing in battlefield. I’m saying you, the player, are nameless cog.

I'd say that's already started with BFV. Previous Battlefields each tended to have a distinct tone and personality, to a varying degree. Not anything particularly narrative, but when you looked at a bit of footage you'd easily go "yeah that's battlefield" even without seeing the UI or anything. BC2 in particular had a memorable voice, but 3 and 4 managed it as well, and of course BF1 was huge on its mood and aesthetic. But then BFV came along and it was pretty much just "it's WW2 I guess", and now 2042 is similarly just "it's modern warfare I guess". They tried to cram a glimpse of personality in there through the specialists, but it absolutely does not work.

You hit the nail on the head. Seriously.

i don't understand why people think BFV is terrible. I didn't pick it up until a couple weeks ago and it seems pretty good?

It’s more bitterness because they made stupid decisions then let the game die. The Pacific sections arrived way too late, they screwed up the TTK in order to attract new players and then changed it yet again.

The squad mechanics, the building, the destruction, and the movement was top tier though.

Watching this video made me realize what felt "off" about the Condor to me. The thing just moves through the air, if that makes sense. There is no sense of lift or even meaningful speed.

I can't quite articulate it better but hopefully someone sees what I'm getting at. It feels so flat, so unreal, so half assed (the condor and the game as a whole)
