Thatís a shame, one of the best decisions battlefront 2 made was adding squads of AI soldiers to the conquest-style game mode to give players more things to shoot

For me what made piloting helicopters click was making left stick ascend/descend and left/right tilt, while right stick was rotate left/right and up/down tilt. Basically all X/Y plane movement was in the left stick and then the right stick was my aiming/orientation

Late game BF1 actually had some decent air balance if only due to the Burton LMR for Supports having incendiary rounds that could disable plane parts near instantly. The Heavy Bomber went from brutally unbalanced to unbalanced annoyance

Donít forget the AA rocket cannon

BF1 is an excellent example of neglecting to balance around ammo capacity, with the launch Hellriegel having comparable stats to the other really good SMGs but with twice as large of a magazine and it was dominant because you could easily shoot 4-5 players without having to reload

Argonne is a perfectly fine infantry only map but it feels like it comes up in rotation more than any other map (except possibly Suez) so Iím fairly tired of it

Amiens, however, is one of the series-best urban maps and I will never get sick of it

The only good use of vehicle animations was making it harder for pilots to bail out past the playable area to deny kills

BF1 was actually good but V was maybe the worst shooter DICE have ever made including both of the new Battlefronts

Squad revives and fortifications are not nearly enough good to outweigh the horrible decisions.

Not only do you have to level up your vehicles to get them on par with other players who already did so, but if you picked a bad vehicle upgrade (and there are so many) then youíre stuck with it until you max out the vehicle, which might take significantly longer if you gimped yourself.

Everything involved with acquiring company coins (which again were necessary for improving your guns and vehicles) was a complete disaster.

Grand Operations was a complete waste of a mode that was abandoned after one half-hearted map update. Speaking of, the maps were some of the worst that Iíve ever played in a Battlefield game. Just horrible layouts and bizarre emplacements all around.

In BF1 one of the Italian guys just starts coughing. Honestly these are the voice lines I like the most!

The German voice actors all had to do push ups and carry heavy weights while recording their lines to make it sound more realistic

BF1 is great, but on certain maps, and especially on the operations game mode, attack planes can be more oppressive to infantry then any of the air in BF4 was.

I remember when the Ilya murmots first got rebalanced after the sea dlc I felt like I was taking crazy pills with how insanely strong it was. A forwards facing camera that spot marks the entire enemy team at infinite range? Bombs that covered roughly three square miles and rearmed in one pass? Way, way too much health? It was nuts

You will have to pry a bolt action into my cold dead hands. I'm better with DMRs than I was expecting but I still basically need a drum of bullets to spray at each guy I see

vv that's how I got back into BF4 lol vv

Thereís bolt actions that have a straight pull, which means you donít have to unscope between shots so theyíre almost like very slow firing DMRs

I just don't see what they add to a BF game.

at the end of the day BF games are really about spectacle and battlefield moments(tm) and having more bodies to shoot keeps the overall scale of everything higher

I just love all the truly wonky guns in BF1. It was an age of experimentation and confusion in gun manufacturing so you get so many truly goofy weapons.

In what other game would an SMG that holds only 8+1 rounds be considered a reasonable (if not exactly good) weapon?

Some of the reload animations were genuinely insane in the level of detail and they must have had a ton of fun making them

also sometimes just funny

How is Battlefield V? How does it stack up to Battlefield 1 as I'm enjoying it without any DLC.

I know its coming free next week to Twitch Prime.

Itís bad and the only highlights are the Pacific maps and that vaulting and mantling are improved. Everything else is a downgrade from BF1

Same in BFV but weirdly somehow it worked in BF1 but not V

I mean at launch in BF1 assault had by far the best guns, both because the Medic/Support guns were mostly crap but also because the Hellriegel and Model 10 Hunter were disgustingly OP

I've been on a kick rediscovering BF1 lately and was surprised at how different the BAR telescopic feels from the trench/storm. It also packs a wallop and I am getting kills easier than I expect to at medium to long ranges. What are the best support guns to use?

Basically everything that they added from the naval DLC onward (so starting with the Perino) is a good gun. Just do yourself a favor on the non-telescopic guns and switch to AA sights

Wasn't the Perino from the Russian DLC and not the later Naval one?

Youíre right, I just never used it until the all the MGs got rebalanced around that time; either way the Perino, MG 08/18 and M1917 are all really good if you like medium-longer distance LMGs

the MG15 is also pretty good

I think the only think I remember that was super abusive about the fighters were the lawn darts that seeming kill instantly and refresh by the time you've turned around.

There was a stretch towards the later days of the game where they buffed the Ilya Murmots heavy bomber and it was just absolutely ludicrous. A trillion HP, you could cruise at the flight ceiling out of range of AA guns, and the cluster bombs would carpet half the map and then completely reload by the time you finished turning back around

I loved how they added the ability for the top gunner in tanks to duck inside, but they still take explosive damage so anyone shooting the tank with rockets (or with other tanks) would still end up killing the gunner without even trying

Scrub-Niggurath

Kibayasu posted:

After the A7V in BF1 I could understand why they would want to make tank gunner positions slightly more vulnerable but in true DICE fashion it was a massive over-correction.

In the BFV beta the tank gunners MGs did like 50 damage per bullet so it actually kind of worked because the gunner would instantly delete anyone in his sights but was still vulnerable to being shot from the side/rear, but then they nerfed it for launch because sniper players complained so now the gunner usually will just lose in a 1v1 at any serious distance
