They’re optional though. Like yeah you could have a full pve server but id imagine most mp matches will just be full pvp. I don’t think they’re going for a titanfall bot setup.

BF2 had, at least as far as I know, the first or one of the first level grinding for unlocks in FPS history. There weren't any standards to meet back then. The grind is so obscene that there had to be grind servers for people to just idle in vehicles to rack up time in them, and if you destroyed a vehicle someone was in you'd get banned.

I got stuck on one of the last few ranks cause it required so many other badges and ribbons https://www.bf2hub.com/stats/43522961 even after almost a thousand hours of playing.

Was aiming a lot harder in BF2 or was I just worse at shooting back then? I remember things being nearly impossible to hit consistently at mid range and then there was the dolphin diving and bunny hopping. Which is why I stuck with grenade spam at the first flag at Strike at Karkand.

It was bad, between server lag and the ridiculous recoil/bloom on guns, I remember you had to use single fire pretty much most of the time and without hit markers you really didn't know if you were on target. Plus some guns like the g36 had broken ironsights.

I don't get the hate towards metro, grind, locker, etc... people like get big points and those maps are great for that. Can't really blame the playerbase for flocking to maps that have higher SPM when the game has a ton of unlocks behind ranks/weapon kills.

its me, i want bots. Not only can I feel better about my shoddy KD by gunning down hapless AI, but it also makes the matches feel way more alive by having a full amount of players at all times. I hope the bots arent too distracting and overtake players PTFOing, but having background grunts that catch random sniper rounds or mortar shells while you push the point can really add to the whole battlefield chaotic vibe in a good way imo

also, given the skill level of random pubbies, im willing to bet ill get revived or resupplied more often by bots than by actual players

I don't think bots will give kill xp or even +1 to your kd. While I don't care personally I don't think dice will do that because people will just grind on bots only server to unlock everything.

I always had this idea about an fps where you could just select different theaters of war and jump between 1942, vietnam, coldwar, and present day but I never imagined somebody would do it and then actually mix everything up. That's kind of beyond anything I was expecting from dice.

Yeah, by far the most likely outcome is that this game is probably going to be a shitshow at launch, but it'll at least be a *fun* shitshow. BF4 was a technical nightmare as everyone's said but even the extremely glitchy and crashy beta was an absolute blast despite only having a dozen guns or so and one map with unfinished Levelution in it. Seven years later the game is still fun as hell and totally playable.

I have a feeling 2042 is going to be the same -- crunchy start, lasting playability.

I'm trying to remember what the issues were at launch with BF4 and I guess my mind erased that info but I do vaguely remember the one bug where if you used a particular weapon with an attachment combo you could mute the sound on everyone's clients.

By the way, the new EA app (origin's replacement) is also in open beta. It doesn't do anything better as far as I can tell and you can't run both at the same time. It detects your currently installed games so at least the transition is smooth. You can get the 2042 beta there too.

My big question is: do people actually drop ammo? Or is it yet more "I give myself ammo because no one else ever loving will and I'm always out of loving gun food"?

No not really, only times I remember seeing ammo crates from pubbies were on top of B because everybody loves to sit up there and launch rockets or snipe. Other than that, I guess if you're playing with goons or friends, someone might run an ammo crate. I wouldn't worry too much about this specifically because they did change the gadget restrictions in BFV I think or was it BF1? I remember in one of the more recent games, people complained and dice moved the gadgets around to let people pick things more freely. Also, after playing with the med crate I can tell you that tryhard infantry players will definitely use that over the launcher, or even switch to Falck for the ability to heal themselves and free up that slot for something else. My guess is we'll see more variety on some of the smaller maps and also when they add points for resupplying.
