If the unannounced game mode isn't Titan mode with busted rear end prototype Titans I think we're legally allowed to fire the entirety of DICE into outer space.

DICE is seemingly incapable of making a new Battlefield without loving with the class system and some of the best Battlefields have had drastically different systems so I'm at least willing to see if it's just "Class + dumb toys" and that'll probably be fine.

The phrasing of that seems super weird, like in what context would it "contain classic maps, weapons, vehicles and more"?

Best thing I can think of is like, remade/remastered best of hits kind of thing. "Here's 1942 Wake Island in the 2042 engine with 1942 weapons, vehicles and classes. Next round up is Dragon Valley with BF2 mechanics and after that is Arica Harbor."

Actually that'd be loving incredible so it's probably not that.

Also, with 128 players they're probably going to have to be really careful with things like grenades and mortars. Maybe expand the capture radius on some points and stuff? Cause in BF1 and 3 I remember some points just being relentlessly shelled and that was with a much lower player count.

What they've been saying is that conquest points are now multiple flags over an area, which will presumably work with majority giving you control but we'll see.

I was playing some BF4 the other night and on the jungle map with the giant rock in the middle with the caves running through it and the enemy team had two transport chopper pilots that were just constantly running in circles around our team's flags with really solid door gunners and it was a goddamn nightmare.

It's an incredibly tiny thing to read from but the couple seconds of gameplay teaser yesterday read more like stuff you'd see with a narration over it, with the dude looking at the Apache and all that.

Plus unless I'm misremembering that's kinda their standard now.

BF1 narrated/explanation stuff had the match announcer with the femme British voice so clearly the voice of near-future warfare is a very bored Mickey Rourke.

Orv

Going back to BF4 lately was honestly pretty rough, despite it 'only' being eight years old now, the fidelity of just how shooters feel has come a long, long way. Plus how dudes kinda skate around while sprinting and for some reason the scale kinda feels like it's off, somehow? It's not bad by any means but it's clearly from the before times.

This is one my biggest complaints with modern games ever since they added stuff like sliding mechanics. I think that's fine but I feel like I'm playing UT2k4 not an actual military-ish shooter.

I meant more that animations and movement in 4 have a certain sorta janky, not quite right fluidity to them but I do agree that while sliding is nice and I'm generally all for increasing movement options and the ability to more rapidly take cover, people being able to spam slides like BF5 feels pretty poo poo. A cooldown (or a longer one if it has one now?) would be nice.

Orv

Yeah watching people run around on the death screen looks really funky compared to more modern games. When they sprint and turn it's especially funny cause their top half moves faster than their legs to their new heading.

I’m not a huge fan of non-standard magazine sizes in shooters because it inherently becomes the best choice no matter what most of the time. Granted that comes mostly from RPGs like The Division where your choices are between “100% more ammo” or “10% less recoil” but I think it’s still better to have the guns balanced around an amount of ammo you know everyone has.

My issue with this is if we're moving to 128 players on a map, the already extremely prevalent Battlefield problem of shoot three dudes and be out of ammo for the fourth is gonna get even nastier without extended mags of some kind.

You can still do that, though as noted in BF5 it's just their gun. This could be me being old (it's definitely that) but I feel like BF is way too fast and way too lethal now for that to be a reliable option.

I actually would absolutely believe 5 RPGs/claymores/AT mines/whatever is standard, if literally everyone can summon a vehicle with enough points and the maps are big enough to hold 128 you're gonna be drowning in loving vehicles and have a ton of places to cover with claymores.

I mean realistically most of the modern games have had a couple or a few gun archetypes per weapon category and then just small tweaks around each archetype. Fast firing, big mag, low damage ARs. Slow firing, small mag, high damage ARs, that kinda thing, then various guns tweak with like +/-20-50 ROF and a few bullets here and there.

That said, they could go back to 2142 levels of guns and you'd still have something that was still the right choice every time if you insist on using it, eg. the Voss.
