Considering the final maps of BF4 had prototype Titans being built I'm still hoping at some point they'll bring back Titan mode. Maybe as a DLC down the line?

sounds like the game needs something to bust these punks

Real question, did the tech behind Punkbuster and other 2000s anti-cheats just become ineffective so companies stopped using it (or was it never really truly effective in the first place?) or did companies just stop giving a poo poo?

Been playing some BF4 again since the server numbers jump and while it's still great and the maps owns, I'd forgotten how janky the netcode was compared to BF1.

Still fun dunking on all the new players who got it from the Amazon Prime giveaway or whatever.

Yeah, while it's not far enough forward for full-on flying Titans, there's certainly room for opposing supercarriers or something of the sort. Considering the whole climate catastrophy angle, they could also do something with floating arks.

Not necessarily. One of the final maps in BF4 was fought on/around a prototype Titan being assembled.

First impressions: Might be the first battlefield game I don't buy on launch.

Graphically it's real nice but man do I hate this operator system. Everyone looks the loving same what the hell were they thinking?

That and basically eliminating the class system is a real downer. Snipers can carry RPGs, everyone gets sensor balls, etc... In all the other battlefields I could look at an enemy and at a glance get a rough idea what their capabilities are, now that wookie could be a medic or disable my tank.

While it's a visual and audio treat the gameplay just feels like mush.

Seriously I can't understate how much the Operator system ruins the flow of the game visually. Just had a situation where I died because me and another Mackay were defending a point. I turn around a corner and see Mackay. I hesitate thinking it's the teammate, except it's not my teammate it's an enemy Mackay and he shoots me in the face. Two more Mackays run over my corpse while I wait for a revive. I know there's HUD indicators on friendlies but it's woefully inadequate.

Like compare that to BF1 where every class and faction had a distinct uniform and visual silhouette. It's maddening they went in this direction. Like the bugs, whatever. Helicopters teleporting around like loving Goku, fine. All that can be fixed, but they really hosed it all up by ditching the class system for this crap and I doubt that's fixable.

My only real complaints right now is the extra sluggish aim (I did go back and play a round of bf1 to compare because while that felt sluggish it’s not as bad as this), and the specialist system is too removed from classes, and specialists should be faction specific

The problem is while the first is fixable I don't think the latter two are. I doubt DICE will make specialists faction specific since they won't want to deal with the hassle of balancing that (no matter how fun and interesting asymmetry can be).

Maybe at the very least give each specialist a different base skin per side? Although all of that would probably be pointless once cosmetics roll out.

No Battlefield ever has had teamwork unless you were in a squad with people you know or got extremely lucky with pubbies. It's always been lone wolves.

I think a big difference is like, with the class system before players generally did take things that benefitted the team. Want to take an LMG? Well you're probably also carting around an ammo box, might as well mash the gadget button and give everyone bullets. Same with medics and medic boxes, etc...

Now I can take the LMG and just throw an RPG in there like it's Battlefield Vietnam again.

So when I'm looking at perfoverlay, whatever the lowest number is between CPU/sim/gpu is my actual frame rate right?

In that case holy poo poo I didn't expect a Ryzen 5 3600 to go obsolete in two years. I'm pulling sub 60 fps at 1440p on medium with DLSS enabled (2070 Super for a video card) and my CPU is apparently to blame?

I think it's between lower value between cpu and gpu. Not sure what the sim is calculating. Last one is megapixels per sec. I could never find an answer in a quick google search though.

In that case with DLSS enabled I'm getting regular 45-55 FPS with Ryzen 3600 and fast RAM when anything action is going on in-game on medium at 1440p. If perfoverlay is to be believed if not for my CPU I'd be getting 100+ fps. What total dogshit.

Congrats Battlefield 2042 you officially run worse on my machine than Cyberpunk did at launch.

While it's pretty Battlefield to be able to drop vehicles on top of buildings, it's a nightmare for balance.

Was playing breakthrough on Kaleidoscope and the enemy dropped minigun hovercrafts/cars on top of both skyscrapers at C. It made it pretty much impossible to take since they parked one outside of each elevator constantly spraying any doors that opened and any choppers trying to drop were gunned down by miniguns and a dozen AA missiles. I really do miss defined classes.

Also lol that you can't play multiple games in a row and instead are punted back to the matchmaker to get stuck with a different random group of people. Seriously what a loving joke.

Here's another weird thing. So I've been trying out Portal and it really is a pile of fun compared to the main game.

With the BF3 content though, if you dig down in the armory all the guns have BF3 attachments available. Sights, underbarrels, etc... However, as far as I can tell there's no way to actually equip them in-game because BF3 mode doesn't have the T menu to change your attachments on the fly and there doesn't seem to be a way change attachments before spawning anymore.

Lmao you can put underbarrel grenade launchers on the sniper rifles.

Love finally getting the Antarctica map except it had me join 30 seconds before the match ends so I immediately get booted to the matchmaker and have to play loving Kaleidoscope AGAIN.

Mr Luxury Yacht

Honestly the having to matchmake after every single match is by far the biggest annoyance for me so far. I've had multiple matches in a row where it joins me into a game that's between 3/4ths done and 30 seconds from finishing only to boot my back to the main menu, load me into a different match that also is almost ending. It's infuriating and really kills the desire to play for long periods of time.

Side note turns out going by Origin's frame count I'm actually getting between 60-70 FPS most of the time although it does drop to 45 in high traffic areas. So better than I thought but still not stellar.

It's also funny how much a lot of the vehicle modifications are straight upgrades again. I was a gunner in a Jeep with someone who had unlocked the 30mm turret and holy poo poo is that thing a beast. Absolutely annihilates everything short of MBTs. There's zero reason to pick the minigun once you have it unlocked.

Meanwhile to unlock AT missiles on the IFV I need something absurd like 600 kills. This unlock system is stupid as hell.

Laserface posted:

its almost as if they want to sell you some kind of XP booster/battle pass or something!

I mean that would make sense but the system they've gone with (kills in a given vehicle) doesn't unlock faster with an XP booster and I doubt the battle pass will unlock any gameplay content for existing vehicles (it'll probably be overpower new guns/visual mods/maybe new vehicles).

I'm assuming it's just there's such a minimal amount of content compared to past games they need to stretch it out (same reason tanks/choppers/planes unlock separately despite being entirely interchangeable and having identical unlocks).

I think I can count in one hand the number of times I've seen someone throw an ammo box in this game outside of Portal.

God it's so funny when you are able to throw a C4 drone on a highly contested point

People don't ever notice the drone, it's hilarious. I buzzed one into the stadium on Hourglass, literally had it hovering in front of several enemy faces and they didn't do poo poo until they exploded. Only thing that even tried to shoot at it was a Ranger nearby.
