im cautiously optimistic about the specialists. Its gonna be convenient being able to use any weapon with any gadget, but im a bit worried itll end up like BFV where everyone has the best anti-infantry and anti-vehicle setup at all times

I'm hoping they learned from that. I think the biggest problem was that they scraped bfv's specialization/subclass system, which wouldve restricted the weapon/gadget combos you could take.

Probably offmap like 1/V.

Wonder how viable stealing airdrops in mid-air will be.

It sounds like people are saying the game will be bots that are regular soldiers and the players will be the specialists, as if the game is a hero shooter. That would be wierd for battlefield. Maybe that is just one mode.

Bots confirmed and they’ll look like generic soldiers.

They’re optional though. Like yeah you could have a full pve server but id imagine most mp matches will just be full pvp. I don’t think they’re going for a titanfall bot setup.

Battlefield flight models aren’t difficult.

The problem is the default control binds and not having a space to practice. Like I don’t know anyone who doesn’t immediately modify the default plane controls to something that makes more sense. There’s really not much else to simplify unless they go with a pure mouse aim mode like swbf2 or war thunder arcade, but at that point there’s no need for more advanced options since they wouldn’t give an advantage against mouseaim.

Hopefully having bots makes it easier for people who want to practice flying without getting murdered by experienced players. Bots contributing to progression should also prevent issues like bfv’s kanonenvogel Stuka, where picking the wrong tier 2 upgrade hosed up your primary load out, making it harder to actually score points.

I feel the issue is there's a lot of aspects to controlling them that are completely unneeded by the average player and really don't need to be manually controlled, rolling being the big one, same with aiming up and down also affecting your aircraft's orientation and thus your forward or backwards momentum, hence my suggestion for helicopters to just work like infantry movement and aiming and altitude adjustment just being done via buttons, most other vehicles operate in simplified "arcadey" fashions so I see no reason why aircraft can't too(and I'd have no problems with the AA capabilities of infantry or ground vehicles being enhanced to combat this if it really was such a huge boost to aircraft performance)

Roll isnt a complex control or thing to get your head around for planes. You can literally set up your keybinds so that you're controlling Pitch/Roll/Yaw/Throttle with only one hand on your KB. Momentum being dictated by pitch orientation is kinda what makes helicopters helicopters. BF helos arent even that complex compared to other games. Like others are saying, the biggest barrier has been not having a place to practice or not being able to progress with vehicle unlocks without getting stomped by more experienced players.

Hold up here... are you actually recommending we use a mouse and keyboard over a Xbox Controller with PC Battlefield?

Not quite. I've always flown with MKB, but it mostly comes down to player preference. The top tier BF1/BFV pilots use both with no real clear advantage for dogfighting. The difference is that using MKB can give you more precision when aiming at ground targets.

Honestly I feel there just needs to be an option to disable left/right tilt(as personally I find that to be kinda useless 99% of the time) and I'd be fine with that kind of control scheme

I'm speaking from a console player perspective, that kind of thing is way more obnoxious to control with analog sticks than I imagine doing it with a keyboard would be

I mean, PC players who use gamepads dont have a problem with it. Roll on a helo is what enables you to strafe and make turns though...

It's weird feeling.

I was seriously unimpressed by the previous few non-modern battlefields, and there are some things that bother me (like putting new specialists behind a paywall), but... it's a modern battlefield.

I also don't know about 128 players. I've been playing a bit of BF4 again lately and 64 players is already too much in that game, imo. I've had WAY more fun in 32 player modes.

I actually would absolutely believe 5 RPGs/claymores/AT mines/whatever is standard, if literally everyone can summon a vehicle with enough points and the maps are big enough to hold 128 you're gonna be drowning in loving vehicles and have a ton of places to cover with claymores.

There's still a cap on how many vehicles can be called in. This seems excessive though:

Yeah but what is that cap? BF5 has like, six or seven ground vehicles and a couple air vehicles per team at a time on the biggest maps, something like that? I just feel like it's probably gonna get messy.

Oh im not concerned about these being used to blow up vehicles - but with this many rockets per person you just know its gonna be spammed against infantry.

I really miss my old logitech extreme 3d pro stick, because trying to fly with a hotas in a bf game is both incredibly overkill, and really unintuitive when half the buttons are on a throttle component that you really don't want to use for bf jet speed control

Maybe I just gotta suck it up and finally learn to learn how to fly m/kb for bf6 but bleurgh my principles, I'd think I'd rather just not fly

e: got a video from back in the day where i put up a similar kpm but with the rocket pods instead of the jdam https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTK7Ja7gY-U, strange to see how much freelook I used instead of third person

When bfv and bf1 launched I don’t think certain joysticks worked. It seems like it’s a real low priority for dice.

Realistically you’re probably better off using a gamepad or mkb over a joystick for planes. Or you can gamble on 2042 having actual joystick support and getting a modern joystick like the vkb nxt
