I downloaded the game Saturday onto my PS4. Bought the gold so I don't have to buy another copy when I get a PS5 but I haven't found one yet so who knows when that's going to be.

I still like BF1 better. Missing the cha-ching sound of a headshot and knowing how far away they were, missing the scoreboard, missing the overall sound and the feel. The graphics on this game don't look great but that might be because I'm still on PS4. But this feels better than BFV did for some reason. I like that I can switch scopes on a whim in the field.

Here have a video of my pet

Also I love that the sentry gun highlights people for you.

The only thing I'm upset about is that my buddies are all on XBox and I'm stuck on PS4 and I can't play with them until I find a PS5 (so never).

I just picked up a PS5. I bought the PS4/PS5 BF2042 so I'm excited to finally see the game with decent graphics (maybe) and 128 players (uh, maybe). I swear they just removed all surface texturing for the PS4 version. Still looked alright but not nearly as good as BF1.

Also, those skins are dope

I really don't mind 128 players. It's a good gimmick-mode when you just want a hellish clusterfuck.

But the addition of this recent Rush mode has proven, very clearly, to me and many others, that one of the biggest issues with BF2042 is the fact that the "main" mode is the 128 player mode. Everything plays better in the smaller Rush mode. The specialists actually matter a lot more now, for example. You're not just fodder in a meatgrinder

I love meatgrinders for some reason. I used to play on those Metro 24/7 servers. I want Metro with 128 players.

This is what I want out of Battlefield. I feel like this was the high point. Securing a sector, hearing the music swell up as your entire team charges forward to the next objective, all while artillery shells explode nearby, sniper bullets whiz by, etc... Every time I play operations and that music kicks in and we rush forward it's just such a hit of dopamine that I suddenly feel that sense of nationalistic collective pride that they did.

Battlefields since then have felt sterile by comparison.

I got this game before I got a PS5, so I was stuck on the smaller maps and 64 players for awhile. I'm imagining the new 64 player modes are the same thing I was originally playing.

Honestly I prefer those maps, and still look for flags in weird locations on the bigger maps. Gonna have to jump on this when I get the chance.

Since I have the game for both PS4 and PS5 I think I can just load up the PS4 version and play on the smaller maps whenever I want, so I guess that's a hidden bonus. Though I swear they disabled all textures because the game looks like it came from the nineties a lot of the time.

One thing I'd like to see is future content with more specialists, with one of them having the ability to carry two primary weapons instead of a primary and a useless handgun. When I played CoD that was my favorite perk and it was great to have an assault and a sniper, or an assault and a shotgun, or an LMG and a sniper... and since each specialist gets one 'perk' it seems ripe for one of them to have that ability.

Handguns are useless.

I think the maps are just too big for conquest to work. If I cap a flag and my choices are a) sit around and defend it even though there aren't any baddies around, or b) hoof it for five minutes to the nearest flag, I'm just going to kill myself and respawn somewhere better.

I had a pretty killer game on Breakthrough last night defending the first set of objectives with mines and sentries, constantly resupplying from an Angel crate to replace them when they got blown up. Held A until we couldn't anymore, eventually had some smart spawn points behind enemy lines and went to town with the PKP. Ended up winning after we got overwhelmed at A but held B.

I almost had all five top tier ribbons. It was intense.

Here are the most annoying bugs I've encountered lately on the PS5:

- I play as Boris and love using the sentry gun. Sometimes it refuses to deploy. Just nothing there. No idea why. It says its available, does the animation but there's no visual of the gun.
- Sometimes after being revived, I can't raise or lower my gun. I can sweep from side to side just fine, just can't raise or lower it. Once I die it's fixed after a respawn.
- The stupid 'body frozen in place' issue. I see it several times a game.
- Unable to revive somebody that's clipped into the terrain. Less an issue honestly since nobody ever revives anybody anyway.

In terms of actual gameplay that aren't obviously bugs, I'm pretty happy otherwise. I've grown accustomed to the lack of a scoreboard and actually kind of prefer not knowing how many times I've died now. I kind of like that it treats kills, assists and revives as all equal for purposes of ranking the squad.

I had a really great game defending Hourglass in breakthrough last night. Joined about a third of the way in (we were losing that second set of objectives, the one where there's three). Fell back, fell back to the last single objective while the opponent had 600 tickets.

And we held it and won.

They almost had it a few times but people were actually just launching themselves into the zone to protect it and it worked. I got 45k points mostly just spamming proxies and the sentry gun. Game's fun, y'all.

So much meticulous care and detail went into the weapons, especially the animations which are the best in any fps ive played. Just the inclusion of horses proves that this was a labor of love from the devs

I checked last night and I have 917 hours in BF1.

Best hours of my life if you ask me.

Man I gotta say though, last night I joined a breakthrough match that was half over and we were attacking on Renewal. It got to the last objectives and the last tickets. We get down to about forty tickets and there was one last desperate push to get the high one (B I think) and as we captured it we started to lose A. It went into overtime and we held them off and won with zero tickets. Just holding B while watching an absolute surge of bodies throwing themselves at the objective was great. They weren't AIs either, they were actually players that played the objective.
