Honestly saying BF5 was the result of anything but sheer unadulterated chaos is doing a disservice even to focus groups.

I wish one day someone will drop a detailed postmortem on 5's development, since it's obvious there was A LOT going wrong with it from concept all the way to when they pulled the plug.

I just wish it didn't make you load the whole rear end HD player model every time you tried to change classes

You can pull some incredible maneuvers with the little scout helicopter and even the big transport if you can get used to rolling left and right. It's a side to side dodge, it tightens up turns tremendously, and you can do a barrel roll if you're high up enough.

One time, in the elevator up to the concourse on Metro, I swear to God one of the soldiers in the elevator turned to me and said, "You ready?" Then the doors opened and we did Battlefield. It wasn't voice chat, it was in-game dialogue, like a triggered event, like how you'll hear a guy shout "grenade" sometimes.

Installed BF1 as well as 4; I'll probably try to figure out 1's bizarre upgrade system before I give up on it again. I like that you can call for backup, I needed a new thing to spam.

Yeah, I switched to one randomly and nailed a couple people with it right away, I was surprised. It's a good weapon for engineers in open maps, where you might want to pop out of your tank and shoot at an RPG guy.

Which is just unacceptably long for how hype I am.

Also hear me out: BF4 is an amazing game. In my opinion, better than BF1 (I never got nearly as much into BF1 than I did BF4).

Or rather... it was. BF4's problem is that that the highs are high but the lows are low.

You can have incredible games that really push your adrenaline, for example, when you're in an attack chopper on shanghai and going on rampage while the entire enemy team tries to kill you.

On the flip side, you can also die instantly repeatedly by stuff you can barely do anything about. Snipers, jets, choppers... you name it. And with how long the game has been out, all of those are now incredibly good at the game (especially the air gods) which can make games absolutely infuriating. Which actually made me feel like my experience in the game got worse than it was closer to launch.

BF1, in my opinion, has a much more "grounded" experience in comparison.

I'm going to try BF1 again based on this, because I love BF4 but if one more motherfucker in a loving helicopter ffffffFFFFF

I usually max out at one kill every ten minutes or so with it, but I love using the giant mortar truck in 4. You get the cool little screen when you're shooting, you have to be sneaky and cagey, sometimes people will team up with you and you get a tank escort, and you can collapse whole sectors of the map with giant missiles.

Inspector Hound

I'm dog poo poo at BF1 and still can't quite figure out what each class does (does no one have spawn beacons? How will I do my secret agent thing??), but man is it gorgeous. I was switching classes and playing airplane gunner in this enormous mountain valley, it seemed like I could see for miles, except when big fog banks rolled in, and you had to listen for bombers coming in. Going to have to figure out mortars.

I finally got Battlelog to work for a minute and saw that I'm in Division 1 in the world for a bunch of stuff, revives, repairs, even LMG kills, then I discovered that "Division 1" means a number anywhere between 1,000 and infinity, so I'm still bad. There are certain maps I just outright avoid in BF4 (or at least wait a few minutes to see how a round plays out in the early stages) because they attract the worst of the best jet/helicopter pilots. Since the maps have no or extremely limited AA options those pilots get to feel like a big player as no one except another jet/helicopter can do anything to them and they’re good enough to kill anything except another 1% jet/helicopter player.

Basically any Naval Strike conquest maps, Siege of Shanghai, the China map with the wrecked casino boat, Flood Zone, Rogue Transmission, and Paracel Storm (and others I’m probably forgetting) are maps that get me immediately looking to the sky.

I saw someone use a deployable AA to great effect on Shanghai, and just loving around with the SOFLAM I got like three kill assists almost immediately on...the big desert one, the really big one. That's what I'll be trying on big maps going forward, along with packing a stinger religiously.
