Game ships with 10 classes/specialists and plans for more as DLC. Are they masochists when it comes to gameplay balance? That sounds insane unless it’s just lazy “these two supports are identical except one has health kits and the other has ammo.”

Specialists are just an active ability, like a drone or an auto turret. Of course there will be ones that are super similar and of course some will be gimmicks and of course some will be bad and some will be the 'meta' one that the tryhards use. It's a fine setup, it shakes things up regularly. There only needs to be a few at any given time that are balanced. Apex & Siege have a ton of operators and legends that are effectively legacy at this point and it's OK.

This is probably the ability of the specialist with an auto turret

*shows a picture of the specialist with his auto turret in the image, including an arrow pointing to the turret*

If it's not that it's one of the vehicles you can drop in

I don't expect anything from places like gamestop but jesus christ

I would explain it but:

The United States posted:

In-Engine just means "using a photomode that takes several seconds to render every frame to like 30720x17280 pixels + z-buffer, which is then downsampled to actual trailer resolution with the z-buffer used for nice DOF effects" because let's face it, game engines have been able to render stuff that looks pre-rendered as long as they take long enough to render each frame to a super high resolution since Crysis.

it seemed like it was highlighting that there are AI bots in the game now. it felt very Titanfall-ish where the player 'specialists' are bad rear end dudes and the regular AI grunts are shitlords to get wasted

I don't think that's what's been implied? Just that you can set up servers to substitute players with bots if you want. So you can have 128 players, or 28 players and 100 bots

It's obvious why DICE/EA is going "Hey remember Rendezook?" while also showing maps that vaguely look like Damavand, Dawnbreaker, Lumphini Garden, and Operation Whiteout. They want people to think about 3 and 4 from the start, the games people actually remember fondly, and not 5 which arguably drat near killed the whole franchise. Yeah it's cold corporate focus group BS, but it makes sense

I mean, is it really that cold corporate focus group to say "well we've strayed from the core of the franchise setting for 7 years so let's get back to it"?

Was just mentioning it as to why it might be rubbing some people wrong since it is still really blatant all things considered. Plus Battlefield 1982 would have been nice, just saying. Close enough to scratch that "modern warfare" itch for people, but keeping the aesthetic distinct from just "BF 3/4 again, but now featuring Boston Dynamics and Tornadoes"

Though admittedly both of those things are why I'm willing to give :dice: the benefit of the doubt for this one since they're both cool as all hell.

If anything, V was the result of cold focus group testing what with them trying to simplify everything, push GAMES AS A SERVICE and constantly pushing "e-sports ready" modes that none of the players wanted.

IW's approach to battle passes is pretty good? All the actual content is in the first 1/3 of the battlepass, the rest is entirely cosmetic and finishing the pass gives you enough fake currency to get the next pass for free.

There was a later glitch when Panzerstorm was added where people could move vehicles all over the maps prior to the round start by simply going in reverse, which included going into normally out of bounds areas. Anyway, chalk me up as another very much intrigued by the way 2042 looks. They’re saying a lot of good stuff so far, and I’m really hoping for cross play insanity as well.

In the original 1942, before a certain patch, you could do that with just TNT on a friendly tank/jeep. You could just throw TNT on the back and detonate it and if FF was off it would fling the jeep/tank. We'd regularly throw them from one uncap to the other on El Alamein

Tarkov is absolutely in the same vein of games as your standard battle royale titles. Solo or Small squad, open world pvp survival, High stakes, loot based. It's a evolution of the formula but it's much more akin to PUBG than it is a looter shooter or a standard BF or COD MP. Hazard Zone sounds like an obvious grab at the Apex/Warzone/PUBG playerbase but I guess we'll find out on the 22nd.
