It seems like they still have classes, just with the specialist you pick being an extra perk within the class. So if you want to play support and use the support gadgets you also pick a specialist that gives you extra stuff. Maybe I misunderstood it though.

I had a great time with BFV despite the flaws. The biggest issue was them playing with the TTK making it a lot less fun for large portions of the game's life.

I'm so hype I've been watching every trailer breakdown video I can find looking for more gameplay details. I know people were wondering about vehicle entry/exit animations. Not sure about exit animations but it was pointed out that you can see an entry animation for someone jumping in one of the side gunner seats on the Osprey being pulled into the tornado. You have to slow it right down to see it. I liked the animations so as long as they are kept to a couple seconds I think it'll be ok. I just hope they aren't as long as the BF5 troop carrier one where you open the doors and walk all the way through from the back.

Yeah could be. My other hunch is that there is always an animation for getting in, and maybe getting out when parked, but you pop out fast if the vehicle is moving fast.

I think some of the BF5 hate is overblown. It felt solid enough on release and I liked squad revives and fortifications. The real problem was the terrible TTK changes and bugs that took too long to fix. Those really hamstrung it for a long time, but they finally polished it up. The Pacific theater stuff is worth a look too if you shelved it before that came out.

I know it's permanently tainted for some people but it's in a pretty solid place now. If you already own it or grab it for cheap I think it's still worth a try. I've been playing again all week and having fun.

We don't have the recommended specs yet but Call of Duty Warzone lists a GTX 670 and a i3-4340 as min spec. Now that does not always mean that you will be unable to launch the game but there are certain times where games need specific generations of hardware at minimum to run. It almost certainly will not be playable even if it can technically run.

You can blow the dust off and give it a try in the open beta whenever that happens but I'd start saving up if you really want to play and enjoy yourself. BF1 has a similar system at the end of the round, but instead of a single main theme I think there are unique themes for each faction or maybe the map? It works pretty nice in BF1 too. It works great in Operations when you are defending or attacking the final 2 objectives if one objective is taken it starts building up the music because the match is just one objective away from ending, and it will fade it out if the defenders push back and take back both objectives so it swells with the flow of the fight. Pretty cool and the BF1 music is just excellent anyway.

BF5 plays music in the last bit of the match too as the tickets are counting down.

Played for 3 rounds. Pretty fun but very rough around the edges. Guns and movement feel awesome. UI is horrible and just feels like clutter at times. Tweaking the opacity settings made it less obnoxious. I really miss the squad revive animation from 5, the paddle animation just isn't as cool. I could not find certain keybinds so they may just be missing. Vehicle cockpit view is super glitchy at max FOV and doesn't keep up with your view so it looks like it stutters and gets in the way. Tank turning the main tank body and rotate the turret at the same time only seemed to work sometimes. Worst though is the rebinding for pilot is bugged so I can't bind yaw to mouse left and right. It bugs out so you only get one direction making helicopters a no go for me right now.

Even with all that I'm having fun. Lots of great potential for squad play. Spotting is very different now so just certain gadgets and vehicle seats can spot. I was the recon guy with the drone painting 7 enemies holding the point so a heli could wreck them from range.

At least on PC if you set up your keybinds well, it is very easy to switch the attachments mid combat if you already know what you want to switch to in what situation. Is it fun? No.

Maybe the full version of the game will have interesting options

I like it for all the attachments except ammo. I hope they just change it to a shared pool of ammo instead of splitting it up across 3 magazine types, two of which I might not even want to use. I imagine we'll unlock more in the main game and select 3 or attachments per category.

I am having a ton of fun. Not sold on the specialist system but curious to see how it works out when we get the full roster. Add in things to help team play like commo rose and a way to see who has ammo on the HUD and that part should be ok. Playing with a full squad on discord and coordinating our kit felt great. Then they just have to fix up the aircraft lag and tank gunner jank and that's the most annoying stuff dealt with.

There are some bigger things I'd like tweaked like vehicles feeling floaty. It sounds like they already addressed movement stuff like constant sliding and bunny hoping.

I'm optimistic. I had a blast with barely any unlocks on one map with 16 hours played so I want to see the rest of the game.

Which may come as a shock to other people in this thread but I actually had a TON of random people both in my squad and just on my team, playing with us, working together, throwing ammo, reviving, building fortifications.

It's almost like all the decisions in 2042 actively discourage that .... Hmmmmmmm

Turns out a vocal majority of the BF community making GBS threads on BF5 for three years despite it being pretty good (you could see it in this thread even!) lead to them discarding a lot of the good things as well as the bad.

The team play problems come down to a lack of info and UI improvements will go a long way to fixing that in 2042. It takes two additions. 1. Icons on teammates for health, ammo, and medic. 2. Nearby medic list when downed. If you can see at a glance what gadgets your teammates and squad have they will help people know who to go to for ammo or what gadgets to take to compliment your squad. Then of they add the nearby medic list when you're downed it will stop everyone from just insta redeploying. They could also add ammo depots to the capture points but that is one of those contentious BF5 things again!

Sure there will still be times when you get mad at the lack of team play when nobody is dropping ammo or health but you get that now in BF4 with 80% going engineer for rocket launchers, or BF5 when your whole squad goes assault or recon.

I think 2042 will be fine but if they take one lesson I hope they either get rid of the third person stuff or make it a toggle. BF5 felt really good and immersive with all the great animations. This meme poo poo propogated by people who don't know what they're talking about ruins the conversation. I'm really hoping DICE doesn't overcorrect and shoehorn in too many restrictions on players. I know people say lack of classes is why teamplay was dead but I really chock that up to a bad UI. You could not see who had and who needed ammo and could not use the comm menu to request. There was also a lack of feedback when doing team friendly stuff so even just having points pop up on the UI again when doing those tasks might be enough to get more people running support gadgets. Even still, I just played a round in BF4 where my squad was 2 snipers, an engineer and me. Extrapolate that out to the team and you have similar teamwork problems. Meanwhile in the beta if you had 4 guys ready to work together you could get some cool diversity going and that was with only 4 specialists. I'd be really curious to see the full roster with a BF4 UI in place to see how the balance was. I guess we'll see where it goes but I worry we get another BF5 where there's a backlash and they second guess the vision and we get some half baked compromise that makes nobody happy.

This guy is frustrating to listen to with the way he constantly contradicts himself.

1. No way to tell friend from foe with all operators looking the same - IFF lights and UI fixes will solve that.
2. No way to identify players with Ammo/health boxes - UI icons will fix this.
3. Specialists do not incentivize team play. No reason to run ammo/health - This one is confusing when he just got done saying how much he needs to be able to see who's running ammo and health.

Other notes: Operators are both too good, but also useless. He calls Falk's heal useless then in the next breath goes on to say how overpowered it is to be able to shoot the ground and heal yourself. He also said Casper's drone was both super useful but also too weak and Boris's turret is useless because it doesn't hold down an angle by itself. Boris' drone is good because it spots marks enemies, not because of the damage.

Then his answer to all this is just copy paste the class system but open up all the weapons to classes. None of his gripes besides the specific specialist gimmicks would be solved by just going back to classes. It will be fixed by UI improvements.

It will not. The UI in BFV is a testament to just use the UI and the number one complaint is that it's impossible to identify classes and enemies and that is with skins that are faction specific instead of shared. UI will make it a bit better but there is no way to tell what class someone is at a glance and that's bad.

It can easily fix these issues. They already said the comm rose will be there launch so when you call out for ammo it'll show who has it. Also for teammates they can add gadget icons on the hud when you look at them. For identifying enemies, there is going to be IFF lights (they are in the trailer too) and they can tweak the hud stuff to make the circles above heads stand out more.

It's possible they don't do things right and it is still garbage at launch but the answer to these problems doesn't have to be generic soldiers and class system.

No, that is 3D spotting and I hope they don't go back to that either. Spamming your spot button all game was dumb.

IFF lights are these little lights on the soldiers that glow either red or blue. There's a couple examples on Mckay and Falk in the trailer. Black Ops 4 had it so you can watch some gameplay of that to get an idea.

I have some screenshots but not sure how to post pictures here.

Edit: https://ibb.co/SQQppGT

Sedisp posted:

Again. We have an example of this. BFV. Again the most common complaint in it is the same one worsened by the operator system. People are able to identify silhouettes quicker than whatever UI system you try to make.

How the IFFs will work is up in the air but I'm skeptical it'll be as easy as identifying enemies at distance as camo and models are

I guess I'm not fulling understanding what the complaint is. If it's just identifying if they're an enemy, the IFF lights and clearer dots on the UI will fix that. The reason I kept missing them in the 2042 beta is the UI blue blended in with the sky.

If the issue is identifying what gadgets the enemy is running then I guess I'm ambivalent. There was no battlefield game where the class of the enemy really changed my behavior. If they were close enough to tell what class they were, I shot them. If they were further away and I could not tell what class, I still shot them.
