MIDDLETOWN, N.J. (AP) _ Two professional wrestlers have been suspended by the World Wrestling Federation after being charged with drug possession by state police, a federation spokesman said.

The wrestlers, known professionally as Hacksaw and Iron Sheik and portrayed as arch-enemies in the ring, were arrested Tuesday on the Garden State Parkway by a trooper who said he saw Hacksaw drinking beer and stopped their car.

The trooper also checked luggage in the car and found three grams of cocaine in bags belonging to Iron Sheik, police said.

Iron Sheik, whose real name is Hossern Vaziri, 44, of Fayetteville, Ga., was released on $5,000 bail. Hacksaw, whose name is James Duggan, 33, of Pinesville, La., was released on his own recognizance.

Duggan was charged with possession of less than 25 grams of marijuana and having open alcohol in his car, said state police Lt. Thomas Gallagher. Vaziri was charged with possession of less than 25 grams of marijuana and possession of cocaine, which is an indictable offense, he said.

They are scheduled to appear at a June 1 hearing in Middletown Township municipal court, Gallagher said.

The wrestlers were driving to an event in Asbury Park, state police said.

Michael Weber, a spokesman for the Stamford, Conn.-based WWF, said Wednesday both wrestlers were suspended indefinitely pending an investigation of the charges.

State police Sgt. Andrew Cavaliere said Duggan was ″really polite and cooperative.″ In the ring, as Hacksaw, he has a law-and-order image. He is also the son of Glens Falls, N.Y., Police Chief James Duggan.
