I liked Penelope’s deal in her match tonight, I hope she doesn’t disappear for 6 weeks. Feud her with Rosa or something.

Also pleasantly surprised by Brock’s performance even if his gear and presence need some work. Surprisingly crisp moves at least.

Also looking forward to the inevitable Santana & Ortiz vs. FTR match that begins the former’s march to taking the titles at the NYC show.

I thought Brock was fine for where he’s at, but not sure why they were in such a hurry to debut him in the way they chose to, especially with how under wraps they’ve kept Hook, who clearly has more going for him at this stage in the game.

I’m questioning if Danny Limelight has been signed. He was featured heavily on Elevation a few months ago but they seem to have cooled off on him in recent weeks. He’s also been retweeting fan requests to AEW to sign him, and filling up a pretty full dance card of indie appearances.

He's probably been on the Tier 0 deal where you have to prioritize your AEW dates and they throw you some wins.

I legit don’t know how to assess the development progress of what’s functionally a fighting game rather than a narrative game.

Like it feels like it’s two parts: the engine and art assets, but doesn’t have pieces like level or encounter design that narrative games have to deal with, but also I am not a video game developer so I have no idea.

Is this the first time we’re hearing that AEW is investing in Epic Games specifically?

Lead Pipe Cinch

Heavy Metal Bakesale

The Cameo posted:

Investing in Epic probably isn't a bad idea in general if you're a large enough company to make a sizable purchase. They're going to have solid returns for years between more movie and TV studios likely adopting the virtual set system debuted in The Mandalorian and the strides forward an engine like UE5 is going to have for both those virtual sets and for video games (seriously, that 100GB early access demo? Nuts. Absolutely batshit insane fidelity). They're not gonna win the monopoly case against Apple over iOS, but they're not going to outright lose, either; the thought at the moment is that there'll be some ordered changes to the App Store and how Apple Pay is required on any purchase outside of a browser, but not a wholesale "allow third party stores on the OS without taking a 30% cut" ruling. Plus Fortnite and Rocket League are solid revenue generators, and they'll probably buy more indie devs with sudden outsized hits like Fall Guys as they come along.

Yeah, it’s just a surprise to m,e that the 8 figure investment turned out to be literally participating in Epic Games funding round and not the amount of money they’ve put in to developing their games.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind if AEW let some of the DARK crew get a little more seasoning on the indies or in Japan or something before bringing them in full time. Even if they kept them on some sort of deal.

Obviously for their sake I hope they get paid, I just can't imagine the same number of people being shuttled from city to city and a lot of them still have a lot of room to improve and grow so they could use the work.

Tony’s building a Dark compound, so I don’t know if there’s necessarily travel involved. They’d probably also get the flexibility to do excursions outside of the compound as well without personally taking on risk. AEW also protects themselves from losing a prospect by pulling WWE’s “put in a couple more years on the indies and then we’ll give you a call” move.

There’s probably something to be said to investing directly in the development of young talent, but neither the Power Plant or WWE PC have really borne that out.
