Out of all of the anti-hero dramas during that era, Sopranos was the best. I've watched it twice and it is incredible how many subtle details I missed on the first viewing which makes the show much more rewarding a second time. The Wire is a very, very close second place: It's smarter, but there are episodes where things are dragged out for way too long.
