Car people specifically seem to latch onto groups. Model, year, genre specific groups with large audiences are the only real way outside of youtube to reach people. Events, parts, new products are all posted to FB and Instagram. I would delete facebook tomorrow if there were better options.

People managed to gather before Facebook I think it can be figured out. Tell a friend that's involved with said group to text you when said group is gathering. Or ask them to send out an email or something. If they aren't willing to accommodate you at all because "everyone should have FB by now" or some other dumb lazy excuse maybe consider quitting said group.

One person is not everyone? Why would everyone have to be involved? I don't get why making slight changes for people that decide to gently caress off of FB is such a big deal, more and more people are doing it so let them do it and not guilt them into staying on FB for whatever group it is

My tkd club uses Facebook almost exclusively and ~shockingly~ you can manage just fine without it. I know at least 3 people personally that have deleted Facebook in the couple few months and they still have social lives. The only way Facebook would even consider becoming more socially responsible, if not forced legally, is by losing membership and revenue streams. gently caress Facebook. It is not an exaggeration to say they are literally ruining the world.

Yeah I've been off of it for a while now, don't miss it at all. I do have the crutch if my wife using it though. I got all sorts of birthday messages which is almost certainly because she posted about it. If people are your friends and you make the effort to keep some loose ties with them via texts it'll be OK. They'll invite you to things and if they forget then it wasn't that important. My life lesson years ago is if I want to be invited to things I should invite people to things.

I tried to stay active in our C&C without FB and it didn't work well so jumped back in for that. If you need to sever from FB the best thing to do is get banned so you can't recover your original account.
