The Astros not signing Aiken probably got them a World Series. It worked out so well for them that I honestly can't blame the Mets if a similar concern is there.

Sure they do, but you’re aware of when a rental goes to the Yankees and talks about their childhood Don Mattingly cards or Grandpa idolizing DiMaggio or whatever, half the fans start talking about pinstripes for life.

If you’re smarter than those fans, though, good on you.

The Astros one is funnier because he goes 2nd to home without a throw even though the ball is fielded like five feet away from him while he's rounding second

The decision to throw was a terrible one, he's safe by a mile even if the catch is made

Cubs and Nats just played a game that ended 6-5 Nats where 30 year old career minor league journeyman Rafael Ortega hit three HR's for the Cubs, and 33 year old career minor league journeyman Yadiel Hernandez hit three HR's for the Nats. Together they combined for eight of the game's fifteen hits, and eight of the game's eleven RBI's.

And who said this series would be dull? :v:

Welp, Dipoto sank the season with that Graveman trade. 20 years, guess we'll wait another.

And as usual in a Seattle August, disappointed eyes start turning towards football.

It really is hosed that Rocker now can't sign with just any team he wants and has to wait a whole year to start his pro career when he could pitch in the minors right now.

It also happened with the Astros and Brady Aiken in what was the first thing that made people mad at them. They had agreements in place with Aiken below slot and two late picks above slot but found something in his UCL so lowered their offer to the minimum required to get a pick the following draft and pulled their offers from the other two. All three had agents by this time so their NCAA eligibility was blown

Teams take guys that need or have had TJS all the time, like the aforementioned Buhler but Aiken was a different story. He had some sort of issue where his elbow (IIRC, his elbow ligaments are abnormally short) made it unlikely that TJS would be successful. The Astros totally hosed over the two over slot guys they had deals with - don’t sign the pick, don’t get the pool money, but Aiken was at least offered a deal. How much of that was the fact they had to in order to get the comp pick at the time we’ll never know.

Allegedly Rocker wasn’t even offered a deal so it’s far more likely it’s something congenital vs an injury. I wonder how much poo poo Cohen is going to get for this though: https://twitter.com/jjcoop36/status/1421966205368377347?s=21

Yup, in order to get the guaranteed offer you have to participate in MLB's MRI/Medical sharing program. This was the reaction to the Aiken affair, but most big names opt out like Rocker.

Yeah, I just thought it was funny that he scored from 1st on a ball that never left the infield for a second time purely because of defensive incompetence and "don't stop running." But yeah, this is just one defender falling apart where a bunch of people had to freze to make the Astros thing possible.

I believe it's because players are under the impression that if they share this info, teams will find some kind of medical issue and use that as an excuse to give them a lowball offer. Which would be very bad for say, a 4 year college guy who has no leverage if he doesn't sign. I don't really blame them, but nobody seems to know what the issue is that the Mets found which would prompt them to supposedly not make any offer at all.

Would anyone here trust MLB owners not to use that information against you?

There isn't a professional, college, or even higher level HS pitcher alive without some form of "damage" in their arm right now at this very second. Even on the MLB side weren't the Orioles famous for a time for using "bad medicals" as an excuse to get out of deals that were either poo poo on in the media, or that Angelos vetoed?

Yeah, the ridiculous bit is that this isn't even "Mets offered [x] signing bonus and Rocker told them to take a hike", this is "Mets drafted him then decided they didn't actually want him, so Rocker is just hosed and has no recourse to enter MLB until the next draft." What a loving shitshow.
