He's so perfectly smug, good decision to have him move into the background for the second half in favour of Riker because otherwise it'd get too much. Onto the one where Wesley falls in space-love.

Every time someone goes to Risa bad poo poo happens. Someone gets kidnapped and brainwashed, somebody gets brainwashed and then helps brainwash other people, just stop going to Risa.

Vash's Risa trip ended up getting her stuck with Q, the worst fate of all

watched season 2's "time squared", an otherwise dull time-loop episode that got better or worse depending on how much patrick stewart was on screen, so with two of him running about it got quite good. pulaski threatened to remove him from command on medical grounds but never did, which felt like a big old chekov's gun.

yeah i feel like there were a couple of elements that got left over from prior drafts i love LeVar Burton's read of "all attempts to obtain further information from the shuttle have failed", just really hammers home that "oh gently caress" feeling coming right off of that distorted "final log entry" from Picard

RE: the alien culture thing, they color alien cultures so broadly that you never see regional differences or counterculture or often the mildest details. The closest we get is a klingon SCIENTIST???!?!? but of course they'd have scientists, they have spaceships and often Important Scientists are violent maniacs. What does a klingon hippie look like? Are there regional variants of Gagh? What are Romulan sports rivalries like? Do there exist touchy feely vulcan colonies or is there a horrible history of repressive genocide? Who is the Ferengi equivalent to Oprah? We get people talking about klingon operas and the cardassian epics but they never show them even though that would be the coolest thing you could do.

I always think of the Vulcan/Romulan split like if China dipped out of earth relations now, and then showed up in 200 years. It’d look similar to how the rest of the planet, but noticeably different. It’d be so interesting to explore the cultural differences to Vulcan. I wanna see a Romulan exchange program.

I was discussing this with a friend the other night, Romulans are just way more chill and less self important.

Romulans have their space gestapo to keep the population under control. I wouldn't call that chill.

So the Gestapo's not cool. The Romulan senator lady was cool, before she got killed by the Gestapo. Romulan counterculture would make our Human Johnny Rotten look like Bear in the Big Blue House. On Vulcan, with the tango of Violent Repression and Psychic Abilities, it is a crime to believe there is a Gestapo, punishable by Gestapo.

I really love the current thread title but "our Human Johnny Rotten" is making me think twice.
