I've now finished Saints Row 3, 4, and Gat. Dated references aside they're all still pretty fun and I'm looking forward to the new one. I may get Agents of Mayhem on sale but ehh

I played Maneater through Game Pass. It's alright, I enjoyed it enough but tbh the entire game hangs off of Chris Parnell's narration and the premise of the game being presented as a lovely Discovery shark week show.

FirstAidKite posted:Hard disagree mainly because that's the only time the game has any weird transitions like that, I know about the trouble the game had during development that would have resulted in stuff like that, and a similar situation was handled SO much better in Bloodborne Going to the Forest of Fallen Giants from Majula and going from the crossroads to Drangleic Castle are close (the forest is further than it seems, and the castle goes from day to night and storms in seconds). It's more of a happy accident that it ties into its themes of forgetfulness and memory loss and just ending up somewhere, though, since iirc they've said it was just an oversight from the development troubles you mentioned

Adam Bowen posted:I loved DS2, I think it's my favorite as well. But I have no idea wtf you're talking about. Where do you pick up on this stuff? I'm genuinely curious because other people who have played From games talk about underlying themes and the history of these places and they sound fascinating. All I remember is going to one place or another, usually for no reason I can recall, and fighting memorable bosses. It's a lot of little things that build up. Most items or equipment state that they are either a replica, knockoff, or recreation of something older. At least one lightning spear miracle mentions that it is the Original lighting spear miracle, a fact that the player knows is false because they have played Dark Souls 1. The Sunbros have conflated Solaire with what they were worshiping to begin with. Benhart uses a greatsword he thinks is the Moonlight Greatsword, but it's in reality a fake. Like VideoGames said, there's a lot about memory loss as well with the Undead losing who they are, Lucatiel slowly forgets who she is and only remembers her name and you at the very end due to your repeated interactions. The mapmaker and the merchant both slowly lose their minds. The player character themselves have forgotten everything but their own name (and even then, probably that). There are no true Demons in the sense of what they are in DS1, and only one real Dragon (the "Ancient Dragon" itself is a big thematic thing). The Throne of Want is a Kiln. The Great Souls are repetitions of the Lord Souls. Drangleic itself is built on top of kingdom after kingdom. Just a whole lot of things all over that ties the game together, though that makes what actually ARE the real deal things a lot more compelling to me, like the Old Chaos consuming Eleum Loyce, and what that means Eleum Loyce must be. Also fun is that you pass though and repeat the actions of Dark Souls 1 in DS2, if you really want to. But you shouldn't, don't you touch those bells e: lmao god drat it I just realized why Immolation is placed where it is RBA Starblade fucked around with this message at 16:26 on Sep 7, 2021 |
