It would probably be for the best really if Blizzard just cancels Overwatch 2. Move that team over to Diablo IV and work on one new game at a time, in this case Diablo IV.

They have a viable product already! Just shift the ow2 team into making content for a still extant but starving playerbase, get GMs in place to crack down extremely hard on toxic behaviors, run a bunch of events to get folks back in, start releasing heroes for the first time in well over a year and they can maybe course correct.

The "box every year" approach doesn't work for a games as a service game, so start treating OW like one again and maybe people will begin caring and they can start making lootbox money and get people to pay attention to OWL and keep those sponsors happy.

They won't, and OW2 will continue be a hilarious boondoggle, but this is absolutely self inflicted.

I stopped playing HOTS the day they just nuked the esports side of it without any warning. Not because I was good at the game or had any significant attachment to the tournaments, but why should I continue to spend time in your live service game when you immediately flag it as something with zero organizational support and with no regard for the people playing and representing it at a high level?

they do that a lot and I don't like it

It's why FF14's approach to EX / Savage / Ultimate fights works so well. The normal difficulty clear is the story based "this is what happened" one. Unless there's an actual reason for it to exist in reality (primal summoned again with a bigger pile of crystals) the harder tiers are you just fighting a ramped up simulation of the fight, or you're doing the version of the fight that a bard is embellishing when singing of your tales to drunks in a tavern, because of course he would make the encounter sound even more epic, he's a bard.

Don't Rashomon the actual story of what happens based on player faction or encounter difficulty, just make it clear what is happening and leave reward tables for repeated clears or harder difficulties as something you just handwave on the side. Otherwise there's no reason to engage with the lore.

That has been historically the case but what people have been mentioning on social media is that offers this year have been getting more competitive because there is no more prestige or future success they can tantalize workers with

IIRC they're also relatively close geographically speaking to Riot, and while the latter certainly has their historical issues in the workplace in many of these same areas, they are on a definite upswing in terms of depth of product lines and brand recognition. If a candidate is strong enough it's probably going to make more sense to go to Riot instead of Blizzard even if the salaries are improving at the latter.

Dreadful news, for both the unionisation efforts, and for seeing yet more developers swallowed up under an already powerful corp. Always figured Kotick would sail away scot free regardless though, shitheads like that never get their comeuppance.

Still, given what a toxic shitshow Blizzard are, and the 'small potatoes' - as some insist - they represent, it's interesting that the main press image Microsoft put out prominently features 4 Blizzard games plus only CoD and Candy Crush from the rest of ABK. Certainly suggests they're not an afterthought to Microsoft at all. Who knows, maybe SC: Ghost will finally get another shot even.

Microsoft was streaming Starcraft on the official Xbox twitch account yesterday after the news broke. It's safe to say there's a lot of interest over there in actually taking advantage of the Blizzard franchises they acquired, particularly with how many folks in the games industry grew up idolizing Blizzard and their titles before everything there went off the rails. Microsoft just has enough resources and smaller studios to do things with the properties instead of them fermenting and rotting on the Blizzard vine for years on end because nobody's doing any work.

just do what xiv does and add a bunch of skimpy outfits for the men too, problem solved :v:

Lost ark has beefcake outfits for the male classes, they're just not default gear like the cheesecake for many of the ladies.

It's dumb, but it's like they just set all the body sliders to 200% in character creation and locked them so you get martial artists running around in six inch heels and the like.
