A Game of Mafia for 15 players. This is my second game. I think it will be fun. Maybe I am wrong. I am less sure it is balanced. Oh well.

Normal mostly standard rules mostly lifted from somber:

I. be cool to one another. please respect basic human decency.
II. No post edits
III. no posting anything itt after you're dead at all until the game is over.
IV. don't quote direct communication from any oot source. if you post the chatlogs from any kind of oot source, you will be punished by death.
V. no faking day actions.
VI. there are no death millers or alignment changes.
VII. respect the hammer. don't post after the hammer. if there's been hammer and i haven't locked the thread yet, just be chill.
VIII. don't lurk. ten posts a day if the day ends within 12 hours of deadline, five posts if within 24. First offense you become freely executable the next game day. Second offense is a modkill.

That was paired with the order of roles above and the order of players in alphabetical order. So b- is 1 in the player list, so 3 Yezhov. And so on.

Thanks for playing my game! I had a really good good time modding/observing this one!

The first game I ran was Red Green Blue Rock Paper Scissors. It wasn't really a traditional mafia game, so in a way this is my first mafia game, but this game also had RPS as a core tension!

Scum beats 3p beats Town, with each having a core power masonry. Cpig and Shell were covered in vests and could self-pardon, but weak to poison. OA and merk had no NK protection, but could potentially, and did, gain the self-pardon ability. Scum could NK the 3ps, and really only needed to NK OA to neuter merk as the survivor no longer has a team win to help make happen.

Big highlights for me:

Toalpaz gambit catching Maerlyn
ObamaAckbar and merk swapping roles in the 3p paranoia masonry. I thought when merk rolled unconfirmed mason that was dead. I appreciated that they "got" the paranoia involved in choosing to work together knowing the other could back stab them at any point.
Shellception getting Rasputin's offer in the seance instead of her confessional.

Funny moments:
3p team both entirely missing the confirmed mason claim and thinking Shell was scum when Shell was picked as a poison target.
Cpig ignoring Shell/deadmeat saying to kill b- who was scum, and ignoring Shell saying to vest deadmeat who was the NK target. Next day was 2 scum 2 3p 2 town, when it could have been 4 town 2 3p 1 scum. Still maybe the vig was a "correct decision" as Grandi would have still been a distraction? But I think saving deadmeat could have been big either way.

The delayed flips were mainly necessitated by this version of the Governor, but I thought having that uncertainty during the nights worked really well. So much of the night chat was "if they flip this way, if they flip that way" and it was just really fun to read.

I also adored having such an active unspoiled dead chat. I don't know how much the seance mechanic should be credited for keeping the dead invested in the game, but it was super fun to have that chat be active and see everyone guessing who was what. Also big thanks to Maerlyn for being, well, like me and wanting to know the spoilers so I had at least one person to chat with in spoiled chat. I know I got to chat with the dead and you didn't and really wanted to.

I told him I avoided that by putting in enough that at least one would make it to D3.

I knew people might complain about pardons, but that is why town had five VT, and with the expected vests it was a boon the 3Ps would have to earn themselves so it was low percentage that it would be duplicated.

Hard to sway me about balance when both teams that had the pardon lost.

Really it tempting merk into holding the game hostage was counter-productive as well. (But also very pro-fun move!)

So yes it is powerful, but it's also a hard power to use well. I figured that out when I was a different form of Gov in somber's game. In that game it was a public day action that also RBed the pardoned that night. So instead of actually using it to pardon people I used it for the RB, and did hit scum twice. Even the threat of using it to actually save someone from the lunch made people want to lunch me. And I had no limit on how many pardons I could use at all. Being Gov in that game was absolutely what made me want to play with the role in this game.

And from flavor I liked the pattern of Khrushchev succeeding Stalin after he dies from Beria's poison then discarding Beria (arguably what actually happened in history!). In general SK is the hardest role to win as, and survivor is also pretty rough, so I thought in terms of balance putting them together to increase their chances seemed good.

Of course just because it worked out in a way where everyone still had a chance to win so close to the end this game doesn't mean that would be what would usually happen if you ran this setup a hundred times. But I'm very happy with how this game went, and I wouldn't change the Govs.
