Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday! I hope the ribs were delicious :)

Birthday related news, I made a new friend yesterday in an online videogame (FFXIV) and somehow or another the topic of conversation between us got on to birthdays and they were disappointed that their birthday was on the 1st of January, which means that any birthday celebration was always overshadowed by New Year's. I mentioned that I had basically completely missed my last several birthdays because I didn't really have anyone to get together and celebrate them with since I'm a fairly solitary person, and COVID certainly didn't help that. So they immediately declared that I was going to have a belated birthday party this weekend in order to make up for the missed ones, regardless of whether it was my birthday or not and didn't give me the option to say no. I'm actually kind of excited because it was a super kind gesture to reach out and try to make someone's day better, even if it's not their birthday :) Also, who doesn't love a party, even if it's virtual?

Yeah, the community in that game is a good bit chiller than WoW. I can't imagine meeting someone in WoW, mentioning missed birthdays, or hell even mentioning birthdays at all, and then being informed that I am having a belated birthday party that coming weekend.

Celebrating my wedding anniversary with a quick getaway to Shenandoah National Park with my wife and our dogs. Enjoyed a wonderful hike on a windy day and just straight up drank in the fall colors. Tonight Iím making us steak for dinner and enjoying a night around a fire in our Airbnbís backyard. There might be someone who is happier than me at this moment but frankly I doubt it.

The virtual get together birthday party was great lol, they all brought a shitload of party favors and stuff and let them loose inside this tiny apartment in game, and then we all jumped in voice chat and I was reminded of what happens when 12 people all try to sing Happy Birthday together over a VOIP client. Sounded like poo poo but it was awesome.

Its Opus codec and discord's bandwidth management per server, and really any ability to handle multiple speakers at all, is poo poo so everyone sounded like undifferentiated robot howling. I heard Happy Birthdaaaaaaaaaaaaytttyyyyyyyyyyyoooo ooooyyyyyyyyyyyyyoooooooo

It was the best thing ever.

Hahaha, that's glorious.

FWIW, highly obscure but positive content: the aaa chain I'm thinking of was pretty epic. It happened a couple months after Goons the Siege of 1DQ. We have the commms infrastructure to have a couple thousand people all talk at once, and this time around the mics and codecs picked up more harmonics than aaa chains past. It started to kind of sound like bees in some kind of swarm.

But yeah the whole thing was awesome, a person and 11 of their friends from various places around the world decided to try to make a random stranger's day better, just the scheduling for such a small thing alone is amazing, because I know at least 1-2 of the people were playing from South Korea after having talked to them, so they were a day plus 14 hours ahead of me, and so they woke up at like 3 am just to show up in game and sing happy birthday to me.

I've made this recipe a handful of times now and can confirm that it yields 100% awesome bolognese. The only tweak I made was that I added like half a teaspoon of Better Than Bullion roast beef base right before I set it to simmer for like 3 hours, just to amp up the beefiness. Radiatori pasta truly is the ultimate meat sauce delivery vehicle.

Made this last night and it was really good.

I live on a short block, so pre-pandemic I'd consistently get about 20-22 kids. I'd always buy the Costco 30-pack of full-sized bars, which work out perfect as the kids' eyes get all big when I give them their choice. Last year, I got 7 kids.

This year, Costco shelved their 30-packs by mid-October, so I scrambled and got two 18-packs from Kroger/Amazon. To make up for last year, I planned to give every kid their pick of two until I started to run low.

There were only 10 kids this year, but those 10 kids were very loving happy. I need to research if the city's running Trunk-or-Treat events or something.

I love Halloween, took the kids out, and got to chat with the neighbors and watch all the little ones have a good time. Now I'm watching football and handing out candy.
We used to have a neighbor that would fry up donuts, and this year we had a bunch handing out beers. I want to do something like that next year, like make tacos or get a hotdog steamer set up on the driveway or something.

I stuck up for a friend I did not know that well and had just met a few weeks ago, against my best friend, and completely torched a years long relationship I think. They had made a rape joke with new friend around and I flipped the gently caress out on them. While I lost my best friend I think, I gained a family, as I am now her "Onii-chan" according to her. (she's half Japanese).

So, somewhat bad, but also somewhat good. I am positive there is a German word for the feeling because there's a German word for everything.

Oh it was funny, "I can't believe you're doing this SJW poo poo, man. I thought I knew you better." Guess they didn't know me at all then, and vice versa. The last couple years have been loving brain poison for people. I just try to be a good and upstanding person as much as I possibly can, and it's mostly worked out for me so far.
