My mother in law has terminal cancer. She elected not to have chemo as she wanted some quality of life before she succumbed, but she was given a fairly new antibody treatment instead. She went for a cat scan 6 weeks ago to see how the disease had spread and to give her some idea of how long she had left and got the results yesterday.

It hadn't spread one single iota.

I live on a short block, so pre-pandemic I'd consistently get about 20-22 kids. I'd always buy the Costco 30-pack of full-sized bars, which work out perfect as the kids' eyes get all big when I give them their choice. Last year, I got 7 kids.

This year, Costco shelved their 30-packs by mid-October, so I scrambled and got two 18-packs from Kroger/Amazon. To make up for last year, I planned to give every kid their pick of two until I started to run low.

There were only 10 kids this year, but those 10 kids were very loving happy. I need to research if the city's running Trunk-or-Treat events or something.

I spent the entire day with my boys yesterday. We went for tons of walks and they got a special treat of getting to share a turkey cheeseburger and sweet potato fries, and when my wife got home after spending the day with friends, we all curled up on the couch and snuggled up while watching the Book of Boba Fett. Aside from how it was like 10 degrees all day, I couldn’t have asked for a better Saturday.

So at a vet town hall I chatted up this vet who was funny as gently caress, kept it all jokes with her. I was about to hand her the card with my number and “call me =)” written on the back too. And she asked me if I wanted her number before I even reached in my back pocket to do the thing. I'm like “yes how did you know!?!?” her: “because we’re both retarded!!!” anyway I'm taking her out for drinks on Wednesday. McNally queue up the sixer because you know I had to tell it exactly how it went down. Should be a fun time. Wish me luck.

Long Story Short- A few days ago, I found a fawn nest in my yard, about 12 feet from my kitchen window.

This has caused a weird tumult of emotions for me- I never feel safe, and yet a Doe found my home safe enough to leave her most precious and delicate commodity.

This also means that I become a paranoid Poppa, and do a bunch of research to know what to do when. This is where I learned deer leave their newborns in a nest for the first week to 10 days, until she is ready to explore the world with Mom. Until then, I check on her twice a day visually, and keep an eye and ear out any other time.

Today was the first day she wasn't 'pancaked' for safety, and is being a little inquisitive, head up, looking about a little. ❤️








E- I forgot to add, Mom has been returning- I've tracked her a little through the underbrush, and early in the morning, before the day heats and kills the spore, it's clear she's been back.
