Some minority of the people who identify as trans today could also have landed as a nonconforming version of their at-birth gender, and it's not a given that one is better than the other (for that minority). I expect to see some slow pendulum swings in transition rates over the coming decades. Mind you, I see this sort of like swing voters - a small volatile group between the larger "definitely trans" and "definitely cis but queer" groups. Also, thanks for the honey you left sitting out here for me.

Knowing the majority language (which feels better than saying "official language" to me) during the sendai/fukushima earthquake in 2011 meant I was translating what the news was saying about Okinawa and how bad the tsunami was about to be for us. They kept saying we were about to die. We obviously did not (the world is a worse place for it, etc, etc). So, in emergencies if people only have time to get out one language (which is incredibly rare and hopefully only ever effects the tiniest amount of people or no one at all), yeah, sure, it's important to understand emergency instructions. Beyond that, languages are important for cultural reasons. If you're moving to the US, being able to communicate in English during an emergency is probably a good idea but in my anecdotal experience, Americans sure as hell don't bother to do the reverse.

My most conservative opinions are apparently my disillusion of the ability for anything to change. I've seen protests, activists and a lot of social energy put into trying to change the world for the better, specifically for super important things that need change now (climate change for example). And despite all that not a tonne has changed outside lip service and token gestures. So yeah, I wish things would change, but it's too late and the efforts of hashtags and social media will amount to almost nothing of worth. Can't tell if that's conservative or cynical tho.

i've got a lot of confusion about trans/gender identity issues in general. if it ever came down to a vote in some hypothetical scenario, i'd always vote in favour of more recognition/rights/facilitation. but honestly i really don't get a lot of it, i find myself having contradictory lines of thought all the time. so i think i'm mostly just going to stay out of it.

NB aro aces are a legitimate identity that has been co-opted by a lot of trenders because it is seen as the safest identity. If you say you're gay or trans in a group of queers you're putting yourself in a weird position if you aren't actually that. NB doesn't require presentation of a specific kind. Aro and ace are such large spectrums that people just go by what you say. I've met too many cis het people (who later said they always were cis het) that use that identity is disgusting and it waters down the validity of it.

1) Guns are awesome and the best tool for self defense. 2) Socioeconomic factors are a big factor but individuals are responsible for their own physical and mental wellbeing. 3) Entrepreneurial mindset is a good thing and should be fostered in education. 4) The government is terrible at everything (though this is after years of poisoning the well by conservatives).
