When I made the OP for the original Succession thread, nobody knew what to make of this show at all, I was like "uhhhh it's Dynasty meets Arrested Development I guess?????" and now we're two seasons later and it's an Emmy-scooping megahit so here's a new thread.

Succession rules! If you haven't watched it why are you even reading this OP you loony. It's about a Murdochesque media empire family and the terrible nonsense they get up to. It's darkly funny and brutal and unbelievably well-shot, written and performed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziBOCIgCaOk

Where we last left off:

The end of season 2 saw patriarch Logan Roy suitably impressed/annoyed at his middle son Kendall finally standing up to him and calling him out publicly for years of lovely behaviour and overseeing various misdeeds, after spending the entire season as a sad sack who shits the bed. omg!!!!!! This sets up a big Roy family civil war for season 3 where Kendall appears to be adopting a woke persona as part of his campaign against his father. Will it go over well? I doubt it

Elsewhere, Roy daughter Shiv is in the middle of a super depressing holiday with her husband Tom who has finally admitted that he is extremely unhappy with her. Poor Tom! He still deserves the guillotine with the rest of them though. Youngest son Roman got back from Turkey and now has to deal with being the sole COO and idk probably still does sex weird. Useless eldest son Connor had to borrow money because nobody liked his escort girlfriend Willa's play, with the promise that he suspends his dumbass presidential campaign. Cousin Greg has sided with Kendall, providing documents with proof of Logan's guilt, which will likely put a dent in TV's ultimate bromance between him and Tom. Gerri and Frank are, idk, still around.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kevqiiYNFrc

Will Kendall succeed in his campaign against his father? Will Roman be able to handle the COO job? Will Shiv and Tom be able to find happiness? And most importantly, will any of them ever, ever, get that kiss from daddy??? Find out when Succession season 3 premieres on HBO on Sunday October 17th.

I'm also seeing the first two eps tonight as part of the London Film Festival hooray!

You should have referred to Kendall as Logan's eldest son, that's certainly how Logan sees it. :D

Had the screening of 301-2 last night. Happy to report its excellent, very funny still and everything has been shaken up nicely. I think people will be very happy. It did feel a bit broader than before but that was possibly a psychological thing for reasons I’ll go into below.

Event was cool, Armstrong and a bunch of the cast showed up, Cox did some cute in-character stuff about Jeremy Strong or Nicolas Braun not being there. It was the European premiere of 301 but the world premiere of 302, which was neat! Not a great audience - most of them were half-cut and cared more about shipping Roman and Gerri than the rest of the show, but there was definitely an infections excitement. It’s not really a cinema experience like at all - I missed so many lines due to people laughing at the latest dumb Greg moment etc (Tom and Greg briefly speak on the phone and people laughed so much during the first line I missed like the next 3 lines) - but it was nice to see such a gorgeous show on a huge screen like that. I think the audience made it feel broader than it was because I was missing a lot of the smarter lines but we’ll see when I rewatch the episodes soon which I am excited to do!!!

Rhea’s assessment of Shiv that she thinks she is a lot smarter than she is, continues to be the most apt description of her character. Shiv desperately needs a win this season. Even Connor got his Conheads, while Shiv has been taking Ls non-stop.

ate up the first 2 seasons in the past month. great show and this episode was also great, as expected.

my main problem w/ it is that it sometimes seems like they walk things back quite a bit, going back to something closer to status quo as the story progresses. so i hope against all hope that kendall doesnt somehow join logan yet again this season. give me war already. with big consequences and "deaths".

Siobhan left because she didn't get the CEO position, she won't settle for less under a second-rate version of her father.

These Logan lawyers discussed for three pointless minutes better turn out to be heavy presences. They discussed strategic nuances of people who are total nobodies. It was infuriating. The whole tarmac scene sucked and they nearly ended it on play drama, the most boring side plot in the series

I think she will join Kendall but only to try to take him down from the inside, and in doing so earn Logan's respect. Shiv and Roman don't have it in them to ever go against their father, no matter what he does.

Greg is going to win in the end.
The collapsing of the Waystar Royco empire and it turning to poo poo has been telegraphed by our Shakespearian fool Ewan who always shows up to set the stage and he made it clear that Logan is going to see his empire turn to poo poo, and also confirming Greg is in and not out. Also part of his empire collapsing means everyone has to leave him, so it can't be the kids.

Also Greg owns. He deserves it.

“Who says I’ve never killed some one! :haw:” was my favorite line of the episode. This show is a lot like The Sopranos in that they’ll toss out something terrible about the characters right when you’re starting to feel good/sympathetic to the them.

What a good show!

My partner and I were wondering this within his first couple of minutes of being on-screen! I almost wonder if they're keeping it vague? He's still pal-ing around with that one druggie lady, so I assume he's not sober, but....we are thinking the fact that it's left vague is on purpose. I almost hope he's off the coke but on some kind of prescribed meds. Doubt it, though.
