i always have a weather widget on whatever os i'm using due to the fact that i walk to/from work when i can and the wather here can be unpredictable. i was a little taken aback by the windows 10 taskbar widget thing they shoved in there after an update but i've gotten used to it too. don't mind it much my aging pc doesnt support windows 11 and i'm glad of it since it won't nag me thanks for listening and have a good friday!

Cybernetic Vermin posted:"trying" is kind of a weird word to use, the thing about teams is that i don't think anyone likes it nearly as much as slack, but kind of obviously it gets way more use as people are basically forced onto it by orgs. even within yospos i'm pretty sure more people are on teams than slack for work etc. by now. to clarify, i meant "trying to be as good" since you're right, people have been moving over to teams because microsoft has a stranglehold on company/education directory and people management, but teams does generally suck and has that feeling that a lot of microsoft products like outlook have where there's too much poo poo jammed into it and it's slow. i mean i just opened our Teams channel (that is a ghost town because no one wants to use it) and I got a spinny icon for ~1 min before it gave up: https://i.imgur.com/03702qu.mp4 ![]() its garbage

doesn’t electron include an entire instance of chromrium into the app? like it’s own separate version of chrome that can fall out of date and stuff

I think you can still set the camera to save as jpg in settings as well, although it would only apply to photos taken after you changed the setting.

yeah installing bad software "ironically" on a main device doesn't seem like a great decision. i will wait until they iron out win 11 a bit more. its actually kind of nice that they left win 10 behind because there's less of a chance MS will mess up its interface via an update now that their eyes are on win 11. Sagebrush posted:Microsoft is actually the least consumer-hostile of all the major tech companies. They make all their money ripping off large corporations (a mitzvah), so they don't have to make money by stealing your data (Google et al) or abusing a million poor people (Amazon) or ripping off average folks (Apple). yeah really their only hostility towards their customers is just irritating them with terrible products and user experience, which compared to selling private info and other stuff isn’t really that evil.

I have a new windows 11 machine at home and it sucks. can’t believe I had to use a registry command to get the old context menu back. that new one is awful. also if I have a folder with videos In it, windows explorer has to like index it each time I load it. the file names all disappear and then slowly reappear one by one. terrible. hmm let’s see, what else… oh yeah the start menu and it’s recommendations is probably the worst iteration of the windows start menu I’ve seen. at least the Lock Screen with the photo background now has text that reads “like the image you see?” instead of just “like what you see?” which sounded sleazy and gross. still think it could probably be shortened to “like this photo?” like a normal person might ask.

I dislike that I had to tie my MS account to win 11 but I really dislike that it automatically named my user folder a truncated version of my Microsoft username/email which is 7 characters, but they truncated it to 5 and it looks stupid. they try to hide it by showing my real name in windows explorer but it’s still visible in some cases (pinned to quick access, etc.). like why wouldn’t it name the folder after my first name or my entire 7 character long handle.. why is 5 the cutoff?
