Problem description: Provide a DETAILED description of your problem here.
I recently upgraded to ASUS TUF Gaming B550-PLUS motherboard setup with Ryzen 5 5600X, Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB, and Coolmaster 750W gold PSU and only thing I carried over are my hard drives and my 1660 ti.
Everything ran fine with no hiccups for about a week before I encountered an issue where my windows screen won't refresh? I can open and drag apps and explorer windows but it doesn't respond when I try to double click on a folder. Also task manager opens but the numbers don't update unless I close and reopen it. My browser stops responding to any clicks and whatever was playing on youtube either freeze or stutters really bad. The sound seem to play fine. When I try to restart through Windows, it doesn't seem to go into the restarting sequence. I end up needing to do a hard reboot.
The issue happens pretty randomly as I have yet to be able to reproduce it. It would happen 20 minutes after the first occurrence, and then it would be fine for days with no issues.
Attempted fixes: What have you tried to do to resolve the problem?
I first thought it could be the SSD my OS is on is failing because it was displaying at 80% health. I cloned the partition into a new M.2 SSD I recently bought. I also updated my GPU driver. Neither has stopped the lag/freeze.
Next thing I'm going to try is do memtest to check the ram, then possibly update the bios if I'm sure there's a need.
*update* I ran memtest and all 4 tests came up with no errors. If the freeze continues my next step is to do clean windows install. What I noticed from last night's freeze is it's a gradual process. First things would stop responding, like thumbnails on websites don't zoom when I click on it, then my youtube video would freeze but audio continues to play for about 5 minutes until ultimately keyboard and mouse stops responding and I have to hard reboot. After reboot everything runs fine.
Recent changes: Have you made any changes to your system/configuration recently that might have caused the problem?
I have never had this issue until I started using the new system I built.
Operating system: e.g. Windows Vista (Home Basic/Home Premium/Business/Ultimate), Windows XP (Home/Pro), MacOS X, Linux, etc. Also specify whether your OS is 32-bit or 64-bit, you can check this in Windows Vista/7 by going to Control Panel, System, and looking at the "System Type" line.
Windows 8 Professional 64bit
System specs: Machine manufacturer/model number. If a laptop, post the FULL model number, which is usually on a sticker on the underside of the machine. Please also include the basic specs such as processor and how much memory you have. If home-built, list your processor, motherboard, graphics card, memory, power supply, hard drive(s), etc. If any other hardware or equipment is relevant to your problem, list it here. If you have a networking issue, post the brand/model/revision of your modem and router from the underside of the boxes. Don't just post the output of a program that claims to show your computer specs, like Speccy, as they are frequently wrong and don't provide enough information (though this is better than nothing if you truly have no idea).
