These are hard-drinking drug-addicted hippies living in soggy Britain. Of course they stunk. They actually look kind of clean for the era. I’ve heard a lot of stories about the Beatles, but never, “they smelled nice.” Their first Hamburg stay, the bar owner lent John, Paul, George, Pete Best, and Stu Sutcliffe a single room with no light or windows directly under the screen of a porno theater he owned. After their first week of 8-hour sets, they had sweated through their clothes and switched to all leather, because it was the one thing they couldn’t sweat through. Everyone who knew them in Hamburg described them as living and smelling like cavemen. This kind of is the cleaned up version of the band.
