I didn't see anything about this. Anyone have any tips? I bought a Vidbox to handle it and have only transferred one tape so far. Results are less than spectacular. Video and audio don't sync. Quality is not great.....but it's coming from a VHS....so I don't expect much better. Thinking a better VHS player might help? The one I'm using is old by VHS standards. Also....is it common for these videos to come out in the gigabyte range? Considering the quality.....I'd expect that these should be closer to hundreds of megabytes per hour.

At the end of 2018, a study was published by London Metropolitan University showing that certain bacteria, normally present only in intestinal tracts or feces, were found on McDonald's self-service screens.

I had to do that a couple years ago for work. We bought this: https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Video...s%2C191&sr=8-21

It did the trick. As you noted, the quality of the video can depend the source and the vcr player. As for your other issues, I didn't notice any sync issues with the software Elgato included. File size was fine too as best I can recall.

Interesting. Yeah....I looked at that device too. Really.....the picture quality is fine with the device I'm using......considering these are being transferred from old video tapes. Just had an issue with the audio/video sync. I'm going to run a couple more tests to see if I can't figure it out. Guess I don't care as much about file size. But over a gig for 45 minutes of poor quality video seems wrong to me.

I converted about a thousand tapes over every cassette based video format ever made for a government agency and the most reliable and best results was the old school method of a FireWire capture on windows 7 based PC's, but failing that if people aren't getting sync issues with that elgato it's definitely what I'd buy today. We bought several of a similar-looking but cheaper German brand and it's garbage with syncing when crappier VHS tapes start dropping frames.

If you're concerned about quality the one suggestion would be check local Craigslist or eBay for a vcr with a built in time base corrector (TBC) as that'll clean things up a bit on the playback side.

Thanks for the recommendation. I installed the software on my older laptop and the sync issue seems to have been fixed. I'm still recording the first video.....so I'll have to see how it turns out. But the short clip corrected the issue I was seeing with my other laptop.
