If the Isles didn't have to deal with situations like a 13-game road trip season opener immediately followed by unforeseen bouts of covid, I'm sure we'd be near the top of the metro. It's only because of Trotz as a coach that we're not in complete freefall, although LouLam's affection for giving ice time to dinosaurs like Chara certainly isn't helping.

They're 2-5-3 at home so far though :/ also very interesting is NYI has 6 OT games with 0 additional points. No OT wins and 3 shootout losses. Losing Eberle seems to have hurt and his replacements by committee of Parise and Palmieri have not worked out (yet maybe who knows ) those two are shooting a combined 5.2%. Pulock getting hurt really really thins out an already pretty questionable D core. IDK where 30 points from defenseman ranks in the NHL, but it seems like that's really bad. Even if the Isles get on a run it's going to be incredibly up hill. With the same games played they're 8 points behind Boston. It's increasingly difficult to see the Isles near the playoffs this season.

Yeah it's definitely looking bleaker than it has in the past two years for sure. Eberle was an important piece of the puzzle, but I really think we lost a lot when we traded Nick Leddy off to Detroit too.

The Isles obvious problem is that they're second-to-last with 57 goals for, and at a glance, it makes sense. They were 20th last year with 156 goals for, but their success was more due to being second in goals against (128).

They lost Eberle in the expansion draft, added some really old dudes who seem to have nothing left to give - Parise (37) and Chara (44), and most of their forwards corps is not only on the wrong side of the age curve, but over 29. Some individuals will likely bounce back to a degree (Palmeiri) while it wouldn't surprise me if 32-year-old Matt Martin just can't keep up with the game anymore.

They're old and bad and got older and badder.

This is a pretty accurate analysis, but Parise has been working hard as hell on the team and creating a lot of good scoring chances on the third line. He's definitely not where he was at his peak, but he can still make things happen.

Chara, though? Send him to the glue factory.
