skipped work, walked around a bit

Eeyo
Aug 29, 2004

alright skipping 81 pages of discussion to ask dumb questions:

i've got an iphone and it saves photos as .heics with the p3 colorspace. i've been pulling these into gimp do do some work (in this case i'm loving around with making some pixel art) and it pops up with a dialog about color spaces, which i always used to ignore.

for web poo poo should i make sure it's all in srgb? i found out pretty quickly that a bunch of the colors in the images i'm importing aren't in srgb space.

2nd part of the question: gimp has 4 ways to do the conversion. by eye it looks like the relative and perceptual methods add a lot of saturation to the image, whereas the saturation and absolute methods look almost identical to the original image. it's just confusing to me because the default method (relative) makes some pretty major changes to the image, whereas the saturation and absolute options appear to do a much better job at making an image that looks the same.

i used hot bot to search for "teens"

going through my grandpa's old camera gear and he's got some interesting stuff

left to right: an old kodak bantam rf and a ton of lens/filter adapters and filters for it. takes kodak 828 film which i'd never heard of before.

a viewmaster personal stereo camera. shoots 69 (nice) stereo pairs on a 36 roll of 35mm. he's also got a huge stack of viewmaster.. discs? of photos he took back in the day. really neat imo.

a waltax junior. japanese camera from the 50s, uses 120 film.

olympus om-1, plus a MASSIVE telephoto lens for it.

i dunno if i'll ever use any of it, but i'm taking it.

Megabound

There's still some people making 828 which is cool but it's a bit pricy for 8 exposures. The Bantam RF would be fun to use.

wish I could make lightroom preload as much information into ram as possible

but alas it still generally waits for a photo to be on screen to want to load it.

which frustrates me a bit. so I ran a disk speed tool on the ssd I normally edit from (sata) vs my nvme boot sdd and woah

sequential is almost an order of magnitude faster. random is not. so idk if that makes much of a difference, but imma copy my active photo folder over to the nvme drive, do the edits, then copy back to spinny for longer term storage

did a shoot yesterday. wasn't really in the zone. the model is quite professional but overall it's not really the vibe I am going for. makes me realise how doing this as a job might get a bit soul destroying, it's meant to be a fun creative endeavour and I was running on intrinsic motivation, but that's dried up a bit, and so going thru the motions is challenging when it's still a task that relies on judgement and creativity

like my day job doesn't. even when I can't be hosed with work, it's still largely executing procedures. I don't need to wrangle my creativity. but doing so here, it's, idk. spose I am just trying to say I can't really be bothered lol

positive thing: I remembered to fuckin ramp up my apeture when it got too bright. I could do with an nd filter but until then I just need to go up to 2.8 rather than 1.8 when it gets bright. usually I forget to do this, but this time.. I did not! lol.
turning on highlight priority or whatever it is was the best move I ever did though.

I can see why you're into them, I feel like that's the vibe you want to create in your photos. Notice that the blacks aren't lifted to the ceiling.

E: on a second pass the blacks are definitely lifted a lot.

It's not my personal taste at all, but this arguably dated style does attract a lot of "engagement", and maybe money through couples photos/weddings/etc.

If your portfolio is all young attractive women, it says something about you. The photographer being a women just makes it even more disappointing.
