honest feedback is necessary when one wants to get better, and people with thin skin can't help themselves and conflate honest feedback with assholish feedback.

you just like advertising. those images are selling you the idea of being cool, or skinny, or young, or sexualized, or the idea that you're the cool photographer taking pictures of women who want to undress in front of you. they're selling you a lifestyle, and we grow up in a society where we're sold that visual lifestyle our entire lives. i don't think it's a mystery or incomprehensible why you'd find them alluring.

it also makes sense why that sort of photography is at the front of the IG explore page. it has the veneer of Good Photography, which is only the technical side, and eschews any deeper meaning other than "she is very good looking, look at her"

horny sells, and you (echinopsis) bought it hook, line, and sinker

This is just me playing around.

I’ve pointed many cams at the sun and none have had problems with that, so maybe it’s an urban legend or it’s pointed at people that do time lapses pointed at the sun for some reason.

Well to a point. Cell phone sensors genuinely do suck balls

that's true, but you can really pull out great RAW files out of them. Of course model dependent.

My old Nexus 6P had an amazing camera, have printed from it and you cannot tell it was from a phone.
Here's a scan of a print from it.

My current phone is a pixel 6 or something and the lens is noticeably worse - distortion and blurryness around the corners.
I've still printed from it and it's still serviceable.

Moral of the story is print your photos.

lightroom is very bad at displaying noise (from the noise slider) as it would be if it was rendered out

it seems to do it properly at around 55% or closer, and if you hold down shift and slowly zoom out from 60 to 50 or so with an image with lots of noise added in post you can see what I mean (it's subtle)

I had an older version for a while, after 55% it wouldn't show noise at all, I finally looked into it and it was a bug that was fixed in new editions so I finally upgraded BUT while it does now show noise at zooms that fit the whole photo in your display, the noise is not accurate, it's not the same as it would be if you hit render. lame. at least it IS better

I opened lightoom to a photo I had open and my first thought was "god drat I put a lot of noise on that, better turn it way the gently caress down", but when I hit develop, it reverted back to what I had set it to

older versions this wasn't a problem.

just chatting about the important things in this thread

I remember my LR was doing something similar, it turned out the graphics card was adding sharpness, so I turned that off. Check your settings.

I have this point and shoot at home that my mum used to use for taking trademe(nz ebay) photos

it takes photos. it harks back to a day when cameras had phone but some people still believed a budge dedicated camera would be a good choice

I do mean to take it with me when I go out because it takes ok video but it has a proprietary charger which is bullshit and makes me feel like I can’t take it out without the charge cable (it plugs into usb-a it could have just been mini or micro or whatever goddamn it)

anyway maybe I should also take pics and share them in this community

These digicams are popular again, if you don’t use it you can sell it for an easy $100

Those powershots are cool because you can put chdk on them and get RAW files out of them, which are surprisingly good, all they need is some color noise reduction

bobmarleysghost
Mar 7, 2006

I got this one a little while ago, it’s got good color science for the jpegs but i use raws out of it. Except for low light, the high iso low light combo renders well in the jpeg.

bobmarleysghost
Mar 7, 2006

the solution is to have a small strip of instant film in front of the mirror that flips up just before you take the photo, that way you have a small preview of the image on paper.
