Yeah, I think if given the AAA quality a sub model could work, but on what is essentially an indy MMO the sub model never works. In this case the expensive box price and then a sub model ontop of that is going to filter practically everyone except the most coped out fans.

Also if anyone has any poo poo for me to slap in the OP I will, I know literally zero about this game. We can start a new thread if this poo poo ever takes off :balldo:

You can pretty clearly see in the latest gameplay video that poo poo is still super common and it doesn't even look like they're trying to hide it- and this video came out a month ago and we're 1-2 months from release...

I played Mortal Online and honestly i can say it was complete poo poo.
Graphics were LOL and outta the 412 skill sets available you only really needed maybe 10.

I think running was a skill and no matter how high i got it, i still still took me 10 minutes to get across town.

Why not try to repair Mortal Online 1 rather then just say gently caress it, lets goto Mortal Online 2?

Totally agree with this.

Having played a good bit of the alpha, I think it's on track to be way way better game than MO1. Unfortunately I don't think it's going to be able to get over its toxic community and lack of QOL features.

So it's worth the $40 price tag?

If you are even a little bit on the fence I'd say wait till the actual release. They are still planning a wipe (last I heard) and there are definitely features they have yet to implement. On the other hand if you end up buying every full loot PVP mmo that comes out I'd say go ahead and do it. It having no reliable world map means that getting first hand experience will give you a huge leg up.

"HAT."
I played the beta a lot, it's actually really fun and great when it's working well. I'm very hopeful they pull it off. One of very few games that gave me old UO or Darktide feelings. It's an extremely niche game that gets tons of hate online from lots of people who have never even really tried to play it, or played another game like it. That being said, it's kinda janky and it often feels like the dev team is barely keeping things together but I had a fuckin blast with the game barely working just cause I've been so thirsty for a full loot open PVP game for so long. It's basically purposefully the spiritual successor to UO, so if you know you know !

so some first impressions of the game:

-definitely going for the old eq feel down to ruins with mobs just standing around, think guk or blackburrow
-the world is huge and it's not like you aggro things all the time, although i guess they're adding more in and animals can breed?
-i saw a dude with a polar bear carrying all his stuff
-player interactions have been wicked funny; a dude recognized the dagger i had as one he made and he taught me how to hopak. i ran into this guy and his guild running the dungeon mentioned above getting into skirmishes on the way. guy i met earlier turns to me and tells me it is time for me to leave because they're about to get into some poo poo. ran into another guy talking poo poo in VOIP so i followed him around and shanked him when i saw the opportunity.
-i followed that guild into the dungeon after awhile even though i was warned to head out and i got lost running around, killed a few undead and got some loot
-the lighting system is badass, nightvision rocks, but could be differentiated better - maybe like eq's blue night vision for dark elves.
-i have decent crafted leather gear and a backup in the bank for when i inevitably bite it.
-trying to go a sneaky thief/assassin dagger guy, but there doesn't seem to be a stealth mechanic aside from one of the clade abilities for npcs. it looked like mo1 had snooping, thieving, and pilfering, but i can't seem to find any info about them. i find it hard to think they wouldn't include those but maybe not.
-the video above talks about how nothing is explained. i think people are used to their being a swath of information about a game as they play. he's right in a way that this game probably won't be super popular as there is little direction for anything. it can be frustrating at times, but i really enjoy games that have a sense of discovery. when i was reading about thieving in mo1, you would get the skills for it in the back alley at fabernum, which could be a fun discovery.
-most people i've found are really helpful, i talked to a guy hunting springboks and he showed me his technique of gathering.
-the graphics are dope.

i wonder how many folks will try to log in on release day. the daily player counts during beta are hovering around 850, but i read they had like 40000 in the stress test. it seemed like mo1 had a daily player count of around 2k, which seems hard to wrap my head around an mmo like that being supported for 10 years. like i'm sure they had more subscribers than daily players, but can those kind of numbers sustain a 30 person dev team a decade?

im sure a fair amount of people are holding out until release considering its so close, and considering they will wipe before release anyways.

Can anyone elaborate on content beyond starting off killing zombies and pigs?

Fuck Man
Jul 5, 2004

the best way i can describe the content is it's sort of similar to eve. it's a mmo survival sandbox, so the things for you to do are just out in the world; gathering, taming creatures, pvping, exploring, trading. there isn't any extrinsic motivation for what you do in the game, you do what you want not what a quest tells you to do, see if you can survive through that playstyle. like for example, i'm going in knowing that i want to be a dagger fighter, so i've been looking as to what it takes to be a dagger fighter. i need to be able to craft daggers, so my dagger craft is up, i've trained in some of the better materials that i can buy off the trading post because i'm not a miner. since i'm not a miner, i have to make money some how to buy the ore, and for me catching horses, hunting animals, and trading has been profitable, so i use that to fund my way to getting the skills and materials that help me a self sufficient dagger fighters. so now that i've identified how i want to play, i can play it solo, but the smart thing may be to find a guild that has similar goals to me. i might look for a pvp pk guild to use my dagger skills or look for one that is more trading oriented and provides protection for people running trade routes or something.

so a big part of the game then is working toward some goal, whatever it may be and figuring out the rest as it comes along. if you're a horse trader someone is going to try to rob you for your horse running back to town. you'll have to figure out how to defend yourself. maybe you talk with people in town and find some other traders and you band together. you might get run down before you even find a horse to tame or find something more interesting worth gathering on the way out. you might find that the horse spawns move as player houses get built and have to constantly be in the know of where new horse spawns are located. guild politics in your area might make you more likely to get ganked in a certain area, so you need to know where to avoid.

so if the advancement of skyrim had the player driven content like eve, that seems to be the best way to describe the vibe.

i think guilds will get big and have political alliances and skirmishes, but it seems like you could be solo if you made some connections with people in game.

Fuck Man
Jul 5, 2004

the zombies at the gy and killing pigs should literally be a starting day/week type thing to get enough gear to move on to other things. when i left the city i started in, fabernum, to go to meduli, a safer newbie city, i had no gear, so when i got to meduli i killed a pig and got some leather to make gear. people get stuck at the gy and think there's nothing beyond that because the game doesn't tell them, but you really need to have some motivation to figure out what you want to do next by looking at your skills and learning how the game works. once you get beyond the grave yard just always have some extra money for back up gear. it's really not that tough once you start getting into the swing of the game.
