yesterday i learned that the cyberpunk genre and its progenitors are racist because the aesthetic leans heavily on orientalism due to 80s western fears of eastern dominance

i learned this because someone in the cyberpunk 2077 thread in games asked a CDPR dev who posts there why they made the game

that thread is an amazing dumpster.

it really is.

i got the game on sale and started posting there just to bullshit about it as i played thorough but about 2/3rds of that thread are weirdly aggressive about everything, the other third are just weird

it seems like a lot of people built the game up in their heads to be a quasi-religious experience and of course nothing was going to deliver on that kind of hype.

that was the original idea walt had for epcot: the experimental prototype community of tomorrow. after he died the company decided they couldn't be bothered to try their hand at government so they made it the world's fair theme park it is today. walt disney's efforts to make it happen are part of why the reedy creek improvement district exists, which is why disney world exerts such a degree of control over its land.

There is a single Letterboxd review to give a sliver of context

https://letterboxd.com/film/skin-5-video-mix-mmm/

The director starred later in the (by comparison) more well-known early cyberpunk video RUBBER'S LOVER, but that was seven years later, so this is early work.

A curiosity only, but rarities are always worth at least a look - I was hoping to see who did the 'Chu Ishikawa'~esque clattery industrial music near the end of the tape, but there isn't even an IMDB for this.

amazing find.

it seems like a lot of people think that, because they have friends with their names @gmail.com their email address must be their name @gmail.com. so as someone who got their name @gmail.com when gmail first started i get an insane amount of other people's poo poo. their official US student loans/uni rego poo poo. private work email chains. car rentals. medical records. multiple bank accounts. i email the support link if i can but most of the time the only way to get ahold of customer service especially for US poo poo where the laws are terrible is to log in as them, which i don't want to do. the funniest thing was some woman paypalled me like $100. i refunded, and told the woman hey, you got the wrong person. she replied 'omg thanks so much, what a dumbass giving me the wrong email lol' and then sent it to me again. which i refunded. and then she sent it again. and i refunded it again.

i am convinced that most of this is the 'not understanding how email addresses work' theory because i once got someone angrilly emailing me that i hacked their email address because that is their name, and I patiently replied, no friend, that is our name, and I registered first.

what really boils my nuts though is someone else has my name.com

its amazing how much of this has changed over my lifetime; in my earliest days as a computery lad you never put your real name anywhere near the internet and now people are routinely getting into slap fights over real name email addresses.
