if you did it with current technology it would be annoying but I feel like if we actually invented some kind of light-emitting cloth it wouldn't be. maybe keeping it visible and looking good would be annoying but it wouldn't necessarily be uncomfortable

person of interest is kind of unique in that it wants to tell a high-concept sci fi story but is forced to do so through the medium of generic network procedural. it does eventually get there but very slowly and never fully escapes that constraint

as far as anyone can tell it goes like this:

1. radio tunes into station
2. station broadcasts bad image in metadata
3. image saved to local cache
4. attempt to load cached image, fail
5. media unit locks up and gets rebooted by watchdog
6. first thing after reboot, immediately try to return to last known state
8. goto 4

resume playback apparently takes precedence over apply patch, or possibly happens so fast the patch process can't complete

with optical media the problem is the plastic. nonrewritable optical encodes data in physical details of the aluminum layer, that should last basically forever if stored safely but you need to be able to shine the laser on it. writable optical media uses light-sensitive dyes and I don’t think it lasts nearly as long

https://gothamist.com/news/this-weapon-detector-is-under-consideration-for-nyc-subways-after-sunset-park-shooting

quote:

Like other metal detectors, Evolv uses an array of magnetic sensors — 50 in total — to spot when a person is carrying metal. But these sensors are linked to machine-learning algorithms, a type of artificial intelligence, so that the company can not only spot a metallic object, but figure out its density or shape — such as the barrel of a gun.

[...]

When the scanner gets a hit, the system snaps a photo of the person and a red 3-D box hovers over where the suspicious object might be. The image also allows a nearby security guard to pull the person out of a crowd. This automated setup allows for a higher volume of foot traffic. The company says that its base model — the Evolv Express — can screen about 3,600 people per hour, which it says is 10 times faster than traditional metal detectors.
